That seems a very underwhelming and terribly biased list.

New York - can top anyone in the Toronto list with just baseball

Chicago - Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks, Sox
Pittsburg - Lemieux, Jagr, Crosby, Malkin just hockey then Bradshaw ... etc
Detroit - 3 strong sports

I'm pretty sure that New York, Boston, LA, Chicago and Pittsburg could put together lists of 10 where everyone would top the entire Toronto list.
.. And what's your point? Just trying to come in here and rain on the parade? There is literally no constructive use for your post. "oh you shouldn't even bother making a top 10 list since it sucks anyways hahaha you guys suck"

Pretty poor list, both Carters should be removed obviously to start.

Really Toronto should get two lists. Top 10 greatest Leafs of all time. And then Top 10 non-hockey greatest Toronto athletes.

The top 10 Leafs would be higher than all 10 on the 'other' lists.

The point is that the list is depressing. The point is that us Toronto sports fans have had it pretty bad if this is as good as it's been. Always compare yourself to the best not the worst to see where you stand. The conclusions are up to you but some of us have realized this a long time ago and tend to put our time into more constructive things.

Flutie is 50/50, he did play 2 years which is short but he also won 2 Grey Cups

Carter won 2 world series trophies, hit the walk off to win the 2nd and his stats are actually good.

1039 G, 203HR, 736 RBI, .257 AVG, .308 OBP, .473 SLG ,.781 OPS

What more do you want? The list is full of all time stats leaders and champions. You can disagree with the list(as many will) but to say its depressing is ridiculous. Some of the cities all time best team sports athletes and you crap all over it? Thats absurd.

Do you think Yankee's fans think its depressing that majority of their greatest players played before most of them were born? No!Want to know why? Because they're the greatest players to have ever put on their respected jersey. The whole list is full of championship winning players. Maybe you don't like football or baseball but you have NO right to be completely disrespectful in the way that you are.

Carter - 2 World Series
Alomar - 2 World Series
Delgado - Leads Most Offensive Stats for the Blue Jays
Clemons - 3 Grey Cups
Flutie - 2 Grey Cups
Sundin - Leads the Leafs in most statistics
Mahovlich - 4 Stanley Cups
Keon - 4 Stanley Cups

Some names can be disagreed upon but those are all winners or lead their respected teams. Don't see whats "depressing" about it

Its too bad that people on this board don't watch any other sport besides hockey. If you did you would realize that VINCE CARTER REVOLUTIONIZED CANADIAN BASKETBALL. Look at how many top 30 players in recent drafts Canada has produced lately. Canada Basketball is on the rise right now and we have that man to thank.

My top ten would be in no particular order:

Dave Keon
Darryl Sittler
Carlos Delgado
Mats Sundin
Doug Gilmour
Roberto Alomar
Borje Salming
Dave Stieb
Roy Halladay
Vince Carter

Honourable Mentions: George Bell, Frank Mahovlich, Damon Stoudamire, John Olerud, Tony Fernandez, Joe Carter, Jose Bautista, and Tom Henke.

I'm probably forgetting a couple guys but those are the best to play here IMO.

Steve Nash had a bigger impact than Carter, who turned many off the game with his selfishness.

Oh **** I totally forgot Doug Flutie, Pinball Clemons, Johnny Bower, and I might even add Roger Clemons. Those 2 seasons here he won the triple crown in pitching and obviously back-to-back Cy Young awards.

Another ignorant comment.
How is a boxer and Canada's " top athlete of the first half of the 20th century" showing Leafs bias?

And since both should be on the list how is the comment ignorant?

And actually to go way off board here:

How about Northern Dancer?

OR are horses not athletes?

Your lack of an ability to communicate is offensive....

Carter did nothing to be even remotely consider in the top 10 greatest athletes....he was a poor team mate and was a selfish person....leaving the team to attend his Grad...etc. Classless athletes have no place on this list.

A boxer and an Olympic gold medal track star....Are not leafs....

We have had only two Kentucky Derby winners from Canada....I bet on one in Vegas at the winter book odds of 20-1 Sunny's Halo and the other Northern Dancer..who is the all time leading sire ever....

20-1 is sweet.

IF we are to consider a horse an athlete then ND should be up there.

He is probably the purest athlete that we've seen in Toronto, ever. Some of the things he could do on a basketball court were amazing! Definitely deserves to be on this list hands down.
