Gretzky doesn't have his team's respect. A team that respect's its coach, plays hard for its coach, that's not happening in Phoenix. At this point, they're better off moving the team to winnipeg, firing gretzky and barnett and pushing both out of day to day duties of the team.

When you trade a guy like Johnson for a 4th rd pick, something wrong.. Even if the guy was going to be a FA the year after, Jonhson plays the game with a ton of hart, is a smart player, skilled enough to fill a spot on top lines if needed and can score goals.. You just cant trade a guy like that and you have to try to resign him if you have a chance to... Thats the kind of move the Hawks made with Sullivan and they still regret today... Im not saying Johnson is as great a player as Sullivan is, but skilled and smart players who always give their best on the ice are keepers...

Bah Johnson was the best PK man for them last year or pretty close to be and he racked up 54 points last year... He cant be worse then a lot of guy there. They trade him to give ice time to their country club player and result are what they are... I think Johnson is pretty happy to play here now... At least he wont play golf right after the regular season.

GRETZKY wants to improve hockey by...trying to provide hockey in Phoenix??
why not bring it back to Winnipeg or Quebec where hockey really belongs...oh yeah 'cause there's not enough $$$ there (at least not enough for Gretz).

Is this what Gretzky gets (or deserves?) for selecting the wrong players for Team Canada?

Easy for me to say/write now, but I did want it back then, I still think about it now (from time to time ).
Crosby should have been there (deserved it big time).
Phaneuf should have been there (deserved it big time).
Staal should have been there....I can't remember the rest (sorry!), but there are others (maybe Spezza?) who should have been there...

Young Shmoung...

I've always thought Gretz was too nice to be a coach. Nothing against him but not everyone can translate play into coaching, especially if they are very softspoken. (I was a softspoken teacher and it took me a couple years to get the discepline thing down and finally with that came the respect.)

BTW I'm not comparing myself to Gretzky... public speaking-wise. Hockey-wise... I could take him

Everyone said, that when he went behind the bench he was crazy...and I would bet, that off the record, #99 would now agree....

Gretzky needs to quit a.s.a.p. He doesn't belong behind a NHL bench. I will never understand why he decided to become a coach. He is more suited to fill a G.M. position.

I think there are problems with that organization that run far deeper than Gretzky, especially when you're building a team around a bunch of aging near-retirees...

Nolan and Roenick were not part of the solution for sure... Just big names.

But Gretzky is part of the solution. Just quit Wayne !
