Bouwmeester is in his prime vs Subban who is in RFA , big difference.
Bouwmeester actually took a paycut because he was overpaid before at nearly 6.7M.

Subban should have gotten 5.5-6.5 x 5 years but thanks to the Norris will most likely end up getting 7-7.5.

good thing he didnt, not interested in losing our #1 D when he enters his prime (27/28 years old) to UFA.

rather pay more and have him play till he's 30+ with us, will be better than having to search for another #1 D.

Too lazy to find that thread from not too long ago about the Habs twitter account so I'll post this here.

Good stuff.

Right, because it totally makes sense that the kid who's dying to hit free agency will sign a long term commitment now, a year and a half later after a contract dispute and with a Norris now in hands, when he could easily file for arbitration and then become an UFA just a year later (sooner than if we had previously given him a 5y deal).
Totally makes sense.

Not sure if it's been posted before but here's a pretty amazing recap of the Bruins-Hawks series:

Kings re-sign Kyle Clifford, 2 years. No $ yet.

Somebody in L.A. will still be on the move though, whether it's him or someone else. Apparently they're still 2 over the roster limit.

King & Ellerby would help us out and could be had for a reasonable price...

I don't understand why would we lose him? If he wants to play for the Habs he wants to play for Habs who cares if it's 3 x 5 year contracts or 1 x 15 year contract the only difference is the perceived value/cap hit that changes.

If it weren't for the fact Ellerby was drafted high, he could be out of the league as we speak. We shouldn't trade any kind of asset for him, as far as I'm concerned. He's a depth guy at best.

Yeah I could be interested in King but if Bergevin was looking to add Ellerby he could have just signed Peckham...

yeah, like the players are so mad at the GM's they barely look at the 50 or 60 Mil contracts they're being offered

on a side note, considering the quality of your posts, I'll avoid using facepalm emoticons and al.

Cannot believe the Kings signed Clifford for so cheap..... It is like their grinder and heart guys are taking peanuts just to stay in LA. Lombardi did well this off season to keep all his pieces in place, and he has a surplus of NHL ready d-men.

Brown contract is a bit steep, but they wanted him to be a King for life. Nothing wrong with that...

Who said anything about being pissed at the GM?

So PK won't be able to refuse the millions being offered to him next year but he would refuse them 5 years from now?? Why? If it's freedom that he wants, he can have it in 2years.

Also, you're pretending to know, with certainty, what PK would do 4-5years down the line. That's quite the skill.

Florida rushing Ellerby screwed with him, but I believe there is still a salvageable Dman in there waiting for the right opportunity...and since LA is gonna need to shed either Nolan, King, or Fraser, it wouldn't hurt the Habs to at least kick the tires and see if Ellerby gets thrown in, since they might even have him hitting the waiver wire anyway...can't hurt...

As per usual.

That being said, I would have loved Clifford in Montreal. He would be an ideal piece to a team that struggles with physicality.

"Prices were too high", "We're going to stand pat and let our players develop", "We're building through the draft."

Thing is, the price was pretty high. I bet they wanted at least a 2nd rounder for him, if not more.

I know the value of a 2nd rounder is fairly high, but who would you rather, de la Rose or Clifford?

I really like de la Rose, but Clifford is the epitome of what the Habs are lacking.

Especially with that sexy price tag. $1M per? Amazing.

You realize you're only bringing up speculation? And even if it was the case, your question is flawed.

a 2nd round pick doesnt automatically = De La Rose. DLR was an early 2nd round pick on a VERY deep draft, and surely an late first round pick in most draft.

I could play this game too comparing Clifford with other 2nd rounder.

Would you take Clifford or Josh Godfrey?
Clifford or Kevin Marshall?
Clifford or Ben Maxwell?
Clifford or Mathieu Carle?
