Buck Showalter is saying its not fair if the Yankees get out of his contract bc Matt Weiters will be a Yankee in 2015. LOL what a whiner, the Yankees would target him if they wanted to regardless Arod on or off the books because they can spend whatever. IF they want someone some self imposed budget wouldn't stop them. Buck has been bitter at the Yankees for a while though

Buck is an idiot for saying that about a player who is currently on his team.

O's are ahead of the Yankees and headed for the playoffs. I don't understand why he would say publicly that a player is gunna leave his team for another team that is currently below them in the standings.

Worry about '13, Buck.

Wouldnt be so sure of that. This isn't George's Yankees.

Not to mention the Yankees' chickens are coming home to roost due to all the reckless spending and ridiculous terms they handed out in years prior.

Thats a fair response, they obviously believe that it helps.. but there have been studies conducted that say they do not help when it comes to playing baseball.

Theres a freakin site that breaks it all down and I've linked it before but I can't find it now

H&H gave out the biggest Yankee contract in history though.

Im not sure what your argument here is. I admit that Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, etc were good players before the 'roids. They suddenly turned into legendary players late in their careers, putting up #'s the game has never seen before or since. You don't think steroids helped them?

How about Brady Anderson going from a lead-off slap hitter to a 50 home-run hitter? And these are just the high profile cases -- Theres plenty of other admitted steroid users that had unspectacular major league careers but would've been career minor leaguers without juicing.

I mean, dont you think they would've stopped calling them "performance enhancing drugs" if they didnt enhance performance?

And they were made to look like fools. Dont think they're willing to jump into that again, and I think the budget is very very real.

If there was ever a team that should be rebuilding, its the Yankees. They should've traded Cano.

It wasn't just that these players got better. Offense was up all around baseball. That to me, says the balls were juiced more than some players were using roids and got better.

Lets say for a moment, though.. that they do help.

Why did the MLB ignore it for all this time and now want to witch-hunt A-Rod and others in an attempt to please the ever-so-annoying media and public image?

Because they were making boatloads of money.

Because they had amazing ratings and were making a ton of money at that time and now they see a way to scapegoat the players to say it is their fault?

Average-sized Papi played something like 450 games for the Twins and hit a total of around 55 homeruns over six seasons. This is from 1997-2002, during the time many think the ball was 'juiced'.

He comes to the Red Sox in 2003, becomes BIG Papi, his home run totals for the YEAR balloon to 31, 41, 47, 53, etc., WHILE he tests positive for steroids. Yeah, steroids don't help.

As long as you guys see it for what it is.

So then, why hate A-Rod or anyone else who used?

Ortiz tested positive in 2003. His "worst" year out of the ones you mentioned in Boston.

Did he keep using throughout those years? Possible I guess, but I won't assume that.

And the FIRST year his home run totals ballooned.

Well, for starters, I never liked A-Rod. I think hes a ********* with very severe social problems.

But more importantly, I feel for the guys who tried to make it while clean -- and have zero sympathy for the guys who continued using after it was explicitly communicated that they were no longer to be a part of the game.

Exactly. And I think the clean players are FINALLY making it known to their union that they want the cheaters out of the game.

I think they will show more restraint and should on the years of the deal, but I believe they will spend

Hating someone for using is silly, IMO. I understand why they did what they did. Everyone was content to turn a blind eye to it until the media decided they had a story and convinced us to be outraged. The self-righteous indignation is nauseating.

I have disdain for the users that repeatedly denied their involvement. You made a mistake, just own it. Ryan Braun. Rafael Palmeiro. Alex Rodriguez. Own it. Even then, I still get it. We're all human, and I won't hate anyone for lying.

All this sanctimonious ******** from the Commissioner's Office is the worst, though. Bud is just as much to "blame" for this than anyone. If any single person deserves to be the target of derision, it's him.

Baseball needs to get that stupid rule out of the rulebook - the one about "upholding the best interests of the game." It gives the commissioner too much power - his office is basically making things up as they go along with this Biogenesis thing.

This version has no basis in fact whatsoever. The media decided they had a story? Jeez...

It was only when BALCO happened, and Congress got involved and threatened MLB's anti-trust reserve, that both MLB and the MLBPA got a little serious about drug testing.

Buck Showalter needs to worry about HIS team. Was he not upside with the Dodgers taking all those bad contracts from the Red Sox?? He's still salty because the Yankees ditched him for Torre. And thinks that could have been him. Re: Torre's HOF managerial career.

As for Ortiz, he was released by Minnesota. Comes to the RS, is much bigger, people thought he was done 2 years ago, and now has a HOF career. Hmm. This is not Rocket Science.

Pedro used too. imo.
