no. He was one of my faves but Tootoo is a serious downgrade from Gaustad. I guarantee you Goose would never be a healthy scratch in the playoffs

edit: I see the nyquist addition too. are you saying you think we could get nyquist and tootoo from detroit for Gaustad?

I know I've probably overdone the cammy talk but what if we send goose and spaling to Calgary for cammy?

I love Tootoo, but I don't think he could come back and be successful. He burned his bridge with Trotz and Poile with his comments on his way out of town. If there was a coaching change at some point, a return could be possible, but not at this point.

What's the saying... "Once you start listening to the fans for advice, you'll be sitting up there soon enough" ... or something to that effect.

No. Cammalleri is a poor fit, and would very quickly wear out his welcome.

Should we get Grabo, I would love to see

Wilson Grabo Hornqvist
Forsberg Cullen Stalberg
Smith Fisher Legwand
Hendricks Goose Nystrom

Weber Josi
Jones Klein
Bartley Ekholm

Trade Ellis and Spaling for picks/prospects/backup goalie

I like the lineup a lot. But if we are going to trade Ellis, we should trade for a LHD.

We have 4.6mil. Trade spaling and we have 6.1mil. Grabo will likely get 3.5-4.

I don't have a source or anything but I feel like Grabo's top 3 look like this...

1. Caps
2/3. Flames or Preds

Gotta believe we're in the Grabo stakes but not sure if we're gonna win.

I don't get all the love for Grabovski. Didn't he bite someone and knock around a women??? Do you really think a guy with that type of personality fits the Preds mold? Tell me if these rumors are just rumors. But if Poile and Trotz are gonna bench Rads and Ak74 over a broken curfew, they don't want someone with a history of questionable morals and poor decisions. I believe SK's effort and demeanor last year is a major reason why he was allowed to walk. I could see Poile telling him to explore his options in Russia. The bottom line is they cleaned house and brought in a certain type of player. If the talk about Grabovski is true, he is not the type of player they want to sign.

Exacly. Do not want Grabs on the preds roster. I rather have Legwand or Fisher. Grabs and Legwands ppg is pretty much the same anyway..

What makes you think that? I havent heard anything hinting that we were in on him besides the guy who posted earlier that he heard from his "reliable" source. I don't think it happens. We have too many centers if you count Wilson.

Unless Grabo is signed to a really low contract we have no shot. We have an 8m a year 4th line. We are almost to the cap. Poile stated we are done with signings and that the only moves we may make at this point would be through trades. I personally think there is a 0% chance Grabo signs in Nashville.

Rumor is Liles will be bought out in the window the Leafs get after arbitration for Franson. So if we do want a veteran D added, Hainsey, Liles, and Gilbert are all UFA (most likely).

I don't know. Is Ekholm ready? Could he come in and take a top 4 spot? I really don't see any of those guys as top 4 guys, are any of them better than Ekholm?

Our problem is we have Ekholm, Ellis, Jones and Bartley to fill 3 spots. All 3 are average to maybe even above as bottom pairing guys (if Jones is what they say he is) but can any step it up and take that number 4 spot?

If Ekholm can transition to the NHL we could be set. He's a big dude that can skate and has a really good transition game, not to mention, he's left handed. Then a bottom pairing of Jones/Ellis-Bartley is set.

Looking through the thread, it looks like the source is crap.

I know I'm always repeating myself, but I believe our D depth is not as great for this upcoming season as some believe. In 3 years, hells yeah...maybe best in the league. But with these four on the roster this year, I'm nervous.

Seems like we always have a few kids on the blueline and it's usually ok. Heck, our veterans last year with Gill and Hannan were bigger problems, IMHO.

Well, Gill was injured most the season like the rest of the team. I'm really excited about the future of our blue line with Jones and Ekholm, but this year should be bumpy. I'd love to add one more.

We have three guys that we know are commodities on the blue line. Weber, Josi and Klein. Pair each of them with a kid. Josi with Jones. Klein with Ekholm and Weber with either Bartley or Ellis. When it's crunch time pair Weber with Josi and find someone to pair with Klein. One of Ekholm or Jones should be able to handle that duty. Our D will be fine.

disagree. Josi was just getting comfortable with Weber last year. we need those two together to eat the big minutes like Weber-Suter did.

Start Jones with Klein and if he can hack it they are a solid 2nd pair and allows us to use the third pair sparingly and in a more sheltered manner.

If Jones struggles then put Bartley or Ekholm with Klein and let Jones cut his teeth with sheltered minutes in the third pair

Disagree all you want..... Taking a page out of the Anaheim playbook when they had Pronger and Niedermayer. Make sure you have a veteran out there at all times and when you need the big shutdown pair then you put out Weber and Josi. It gets the kids experience with a veteran and while it may take a little time to get used to, you don't have a third pairing with no experience out on the ice, even if it is sheltered minutes. At some point, either Jones or Ekholm is going to need to learn to play unsheltered minutes and the sooner the better. This is the year to experiment and get these kids situated for the next 10-15 years with this team.
