Does anybody knows where both are going to play next year?
Maybe they are going to Shattuck, MacKinnon and Noel did great over there...

Who are the best players coming out of Newfoundland?
Is it a weak year for the rock?

Evan Fitzpatrick and Andrew Murphy will both be high picks, Fitzpatrick may go top 5.

I wouldn't buy into that, Mason McDonald didn't even go round 1.

Are you sure about Balmas? I was sent an article in which he suggested he might be looking to play outside of CB next season.

Balmas for sure isn't going to a prep school like Shattuck. I've heard first hand that he isn't exactly excelling in the classroom. Definitely a hockey > studies guy right now.

There is a large desire and pressure to keep the 98 NS group here to play midget. As of 2 weeks ago, my statement stands.

The way he was quoted in the article it sounded more like he was exploring the option of playing for a Halifax area based NSMMHL team.

It'd be entertaining to see Getson & Balmas play together in midget

If you mean on the same team, it wont happen unless its prep. The rules are very clear. No way CB releases Balmas and no way South Shore releases Getson.

The only Prep that would court those two thats local(ish) would be RNH and they play in the Canadian Prep league, although that team entered in the ice Jam last year and i would expect they would again.
If there are other prep options out there only the family knows but as for the NSEMMHL they have to play for their geographical team.

Dont forget Balmas will get lots of exposure at the Mentorship and a chance ( a good one ) to play in front of a hometown crowd in the World U17 held in Cape breton this year. Everyone wants him ( them ) here.

If you're suggesting it's impossible for Balmas to move to another city/town that has a NSMMHL even if it's temporary, then you're fooling yourself. If he's residing outside of CB they're still going to want him in their league

It's the same league no matter where he lives in NS. There is no advantage to him moving to halifax, not to mention that the 3 metro teams have already committed to enough players to roster.

Different coaches, different off ice resources, different surrounding, etc.

That's not a shot at the CB coaching staff before anyone jumps down my throat thinking it is lol

It's his words, not mine. He's the one that said he wasn't sure where he'd play next season

In your opinion Scoutman , which D from Québec are sure bets to go in the first round 2014 ??

I know I'm not Scoutman, but I think Campoli is definitely a sure bet to go first round, and might even go top five to be honest.

He will be at the Canadian All-State mentorship program, so you can see him there if you like.

I've seen him play and agree that Campoli is defenetely one of the better defenseman coming out of Quebec.

Samuel Girard is an incredible skater with great offensive skills, in my opinion he will go very high in the draft. Girard's only problem is that he's 5'7".

Another good D is Gabriel Sylvestre, he is very smart and moves great for his size 6' 2''. He could surprise and be picked in the top 10.

Based on what I saw last season, Jacob Neveu (Amos), Samuel Girard (Jonquière), Nicolas Patry-Gingras (Gatineau) and Michael Campoli (Lac-St-Louis) should be the front runners for the upcoming draft. I really like Émile Bourque (Lévis) as well.

Seeing them all play last week at the U16 camp in Boisbriand , in my opinion these are the 6 D that should be chosen for the Coupe Quebec tournament that is held in December.

1-Samuel Girard
2-Michael Campoli
3-Gabriel Sylvestre
4-Jeremy Beaudin
5-Emile Bourque
6-Pascal Corbeil

Those are three defencemen currently standing 5'7" and who thus won't be much taller in December. Since Girard and Bourque seem to be locks, can't see Corbeil getting one of the seven spots on defense too...

Thomas Grégoire and Patry-Gingras would be my 6th and 7th at this point.

Excellent point !! If their looking for size on D you need to add Jacob Neveu to the mix ! I much prefer Neveu to Gregoire , better all around game !!
I thought Patry-Gingras was disappointing to watch , since he played Midget AAA last year , I expected much better !!

I know a lot can change over the next year, but judging from that list, it looks like it could be a big year for Nova Scotia.
Is this just one good year, or is Nova Scotia finally starting to produce more regular talent?

this is a special year for nova scotia, but overall nova scotia is producing more top end talent now, with great off season camps now and improved team structure in the major leagues such as bantam and midget now the top players are learning how to groom their talent now.

Hockey Nova Scotia is still an absolute mess

Seems like every year in NS there are a lot of promising kids coming into midget and few pan out. Hopefully this group is an exception!
