Dwyer has shown up to camp/offseason activities overweight for three years in a row. During games he has to tap out often because he's out of breath. His work ethic is very questionable. He's not starter material, and assuming all the other RBs stay healthy I would not be surprised if Dwyer was cut after the preseason.

Yeah it's only the Gold Cup and Panama isn't exactly a powerhouse, but still.

Very happy about this despite Panama playing dirty at the end. 11 in a row for the USMNT!

If the US beats Brazil at the World Cup being held in Brazil....how big of an upset would it be? I really want to shock the world with a big win.

Or at least beat the ****ing Germans.

Klinsmann would throw that match.. then after the match start celebrating with the Germans.

Seriously, I love what Klinsy is doing with the team. And he does some hilarious antics, esp when we score.

Aron Jóhannsson is an American!

Well, for the purposes of soccer from now on at least. That'll help our putrid strike depth immensely...wise move from the kid considering he never had a chance of playing for a World Cup for Iceland.

As an American Icelandophile who follows AGF (his former team) this makes me entirely too happy.

Fun Fact: Jóhannsson was signed by AZ Alkmaar Zaanstree (Dutch) to essentially replace outgoing striker Jozy Altidore, who just finished a transfer to Sunderland. One would have to imagine Altidore played a role in Jóhannsson's decision as they were teammates for half a year...especially considering the duo could be the top two forwards for Team USA before too long.

Guys, you are going to get me excited about soccer, wtf. When is the next US national game? I don't think I could bring myself to care about MLS.

The MLS has made massive strides over the past decade...it's a decent product now.

Of course it took me having a team to latch onto, one that employs the best American player ever, before I could get onto it and they've happened to win the title each of the two seasons I've cared...so that helps

The next US game is August 14, a friendly in Bosnia and Herzegovina. After that there are two World Cup qualifiers on September 6 (@ Costa Rica) and September 10 (vs. Mexico in Columbus). The US essentially only needs to win one game to have a spot clinched before the final two qualifiers in October. The first 3 teams in the hexagonal automatically qualify and the 4th place team will play a play-off against New Zealand. Through 6 games the US has 13 points, Costa Rica 11, Mexico 8, Honduras 7, Panama 6, and Jamaica 2.

Mexico may well not go to the World Cup...they've been limp all year and they've already faced Jamaica twice.

Jason Kutney, Riverhounds player and CEO, says that his goal is to have a MSL team in Pittsburgh in the next 5 to 10 years. (not sure where they would have the venue, but it would be great to see Pittsburgh get a franchise.)

The stadium can be expanded. Apparently the team believes it can be expanded to hold 18,000.

That's awesome.

Although I didn't see 18k as upgradeable. But 10k, after each phase is completed.

1st Phase - is making the supporters section a permanent grandstand and adding more seating to that area of the stadium which could add about another 2,000 seats. That would bring total capacity to about 6,000 (Expected to take place following this season)
2nd Phase - is wrapping corners of stadium with more seating near the East End. This could add about another 1,000. (Based upon demand)
3rd Phase would involve a second tier of seating over the current grandstand. This would require substantial coordination with the city because it would require building over a nearby roadway. This could bring stadium theoretically to slightly over 10,000 (Based upon demand)

Correct. The 18,000 I mentioned isn't mentioned in this article.

Word is that the offensive line is looking damn good so far. I have been reading a lot of good blurbs about Malecki. Could be a solid swing guy. Also that Gilbert has been doing well. I'm not a big Gilbert fan, but I hope he becomes a consistently good, serviceable tackle. I think what will help the young line is the zone blocking. We have the horses to be a tremendously effective zone blocking team. Not sure if this is common, but Tomlin, from what I'm reading, is making his o-linemen wear knee braces in practice. Good on him, IMO.

Worilds is hurt...again. I think he has been a solid player in the snaps he has received over the course of his career, but man, the injuries kill him every single year.

Also reading that Sanders is looking real good...fast especially. Could have a huge season coming up for him.

The thing with Dwyer is, yeah, what you're saying is correct, but he has the build to be a nice banger where he gets 10 carries or so a game, and especially in short yardage.

I just simply have never been able to get a read on Bell, even when I'd watch him in college. He's sort of weird. People compare him to Steven Jackson, and I'd absolutely cream myself if he even turns into something close to Steven Jackson. He does have that look though...Steven Jackson, Curtis Martin-esque type runner. By no means a burner, but can be effective running any place you need him to, and catching the ball. The blocking scheme should help tremendously.

There are plenty of RBs like that in the NFL. I'd rather the Steelers go with one that doesn't show up to camp overweight all the time. Seems like he only got himself into shape because of Le'Veon Bell threatening to take his job (which he's doing a really good job of according to a lot of reports).

I have honestly not read one single thing that has stated Dwyer has come into this seasons camp overweight. I do recall, however, him coming into the combine overweight, and rookie camp overweight. I also recall him coming into last year's camp down 20 pounds.

I personally think Dwyer is a better runner than Redman.

He came into OTAs overweight a few months ago.

OTA's are not training camp. Everyone comes into OTA's not in the best shape.

As I said above, I haven't read one single thing that said he showed up at SVC out of shape. Not excusing the fact that he has in the past, but he hasn't done it recently.

Yes, but as a professional athlete he shouldn't show up to OTAs as heavy as he did. Players might not be in "playing shape" during OTAs, but they certainly shouldn't be as heavy as Dwyer was. It's concerning that it seemingly took the threat of Le'Veon Bell to motivate him.
