Glad he's back. Helped Hartford quite a bit and relieved some of the pressure on McIlrath to bear the brunt of the fighting role.

Still don't see much of an NHL future unless he can really up his skating, and at nearly 25 this could be a really important season for him.

This next contract is make or break for him. Hope he solidifies himself as a 4th liner. If not, he is very good depth for Hartford.

That deal is exactly his qualifying offer.

obligatory "the Cup is ours" post...

in all seriousness though, i always thought Mash was good depth, and hes cheap. good signing if you ask me.

He was ok in Hartford, nothing special. Probably won't play any meaningful NHL hockey unless he is a late bloomer.

As far as I remember he was a little invisible when he took his turn in New York this past season. Didn't drop the gloves at all. Could have been at the behest of the coaching staff, or I'm sure he just wanted to optimize the minutes he could get trying to show what he's got.

Either way, this is a good deal for Hartford. As another poster said, nothing wrong with someone taking some of the bouts off of McIlrath's hands.

On the outlook for a turn with NYR this season, I think it would be a mistake to give Mash a shot before we give Haley one.

I haven't seen any report that suggests the pick is conditional on him re-signing.

Couldn't find any official report either. Lots of speculation on the trade board. RB's post was all I could find on our board

Looks like if the Rangers qualify him, they give up a 7th. If they don't,they don't lose the pick.

Yeah I know. It looks like another case of HFNYR taking RangerBot's speculation as gospel.

This says it's conditional.

The Rangers made a deal with San Jose to acquire forward Brandon Mashinter in exchange for Tommy Grant and a conditional 2014 pick, the team announced.

Can't find anything saying it's conditional on re-signing but what else would it be conditional on?

Winning the cup. Mashinter was supposed to be the missing piece.

I hope so. The Rangers need to develop some form of toughness for this team. Haley and Mashinter would help a lot.

IB shows more than Mashinter. It's a small amount if he's not called up, but don't see he's worth it.

It wasn't a comment on RangerBoy, it was a comment on everyone else blindly accepting what he puts out there. In this case, it was clearly speculation, and I don't think he would have intended it to be taken the way it was.

I know it's conditional. It could be conditional on NHL games played or qualifying for Group VI etc.

does anybody who watched the Whale know why he all of a sudden turned into an effective player and not just a goon? Like did he play more minutes or put in a different role?
