do we pick up a little boost, in the 1-2 million range? Last year, we were still on the fringe and picked up the unimpresive Oleg Petrov for 1.2 million from the Habs. Will we do it this year...or will we stick with what's working?

I personally don't think we'll spend the money on anything more than another checker to round out the bottom six. I know that it seems like we should stick to what we've got, but MOST teams that are winning will add a little extra punch, just to make themselves that much better. even a rental-type player could be helpful.

Well, technically Petrov only cost around 400,000 because most of the season had expired. If a 2 mil a year player comes a long, we might be willing to pay him 500k for a 20 game stint.

I'd rather us not do anything. My biggest fear is we are going to jump of course and try to mortgage our future for some short term results. We don't need an aging overpaid veteran for 20 games. Unless it's for a 4th rounder or less.

I think we should stick with the horses that got us here, to prove everyone wrong, that we can win with this low of a payroll

The only players that could really make a difference on this team we probably can't afford. The marginal types like Petrov I think would actually disrupt chemistry at this point without a drastic improvement in talent. A player like Zhamnov would be a great fit here, but it just isn't going to happen......

Patience young grasshopper, we still are build towards the future, it would be a shame to lose what we've worked for 5 years on for just a cheap thrill, that probably won't take us to the promise land..

I dont want to lose any of our draft-picks....so I'd rather us stay with what we have this year. Rent-a-players are for the cup-contenders. We aren't there yet, although Vokoun could carry us deep if he gets hot.

Poile addresses this very issue in the paper this a.m. (scroll down)

I think that if the CBA wasn't looming they might be more inclined to make a move.
