in all honesty, we've got too much young talent to be the no. 1... eventually the kids will start potting some goals and i think we will end the season near .500. it is abundantly clear that the kids won't score consistently this year, i don't think... but there will be spurts where they provide the necessary offense for this team to win some... and times when they don't.
I honestly feel if we're to be able to compete at all with Pittsburgh in 2-3 years, we need a lottery pick or two. Philly has some nice young talent, but comparing Carter/Richards/Giroux to Crosby/Malkin/Staal is like apples to Agent Orange.

Pitt is going to have a tough time keeping that group together long term and fielding a competitive roster throughout their lineup. Those are obviously super-talented kids, but the cap means that they're going to have to make some hard choices when they sign them.
Pitt is going to be in a similar situation to TB... the good thing for them is that they get to see how it works with TB and plan accordingly. The bad news is that the trade that they will pull off, with Malkin i would personally expect, will give them an INCREDIBLE amount of depth behind Crosby/Staal/MAF all making big money (assuming MAF proves consistent).
Back off, buddy. I'm not going through this utter humiliation for nothing. The pick is OURS.
Sadly, we all know we will get on a hot streak and finish 9th in the conference which means no playoffs and the worst possible pick if the non playoff teams.
Neither do I. Go to the NHL store on nhl.com and look at personalizing a jersey -- it will show you what it looks like, and you can save the image.
But you can't do a 'Yotes Voracek one...
I'll wait a couple of months until the Flyers have dug themselves out of this hole, and the Coyotes are still sitting at three wins. Then, I'll steal your idea. Deal?

You truly understand how things work in Philly. I fully expect this, or else the FLyers trade their draft pick in a desperate attempt to improve themselves, and end up stinking ala the Tom Kurvers deal from NJ to Toronto or the Guy LaFleur situation bw Mtl and the Seals. This is how things work in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, it will be this way until I die, at which time the curse will be lifted and the Flyers will win Cups freely and the Phillies might make the playoffs...not win anything, but maybe make the playoffs.

IMO Popov will be better then Nodl. He is 18 years old playing in Russian Super league against man. Chances are he will get traded. Potulny is a center. Richards is not #1 center. He did nothing to deserve to be one. Bellamy and Cabana stink.

Popov is purely a perimeter player, and that's not enough to get the Flyers management to offer him a full-time position, IMO. Without a full-time guarantee, a Russian (or most Europeans for that matter) won't even consider sniffing a contract offer. Thus why I think he'll be a bust, which in the seventh round is not a big deal.
Potulny, I don't know. I think his offensive talents are better suited for wing, which some posters will agree with. He'll be given more toi this way, he won't be counted on to outmuscle many players, and more importantly he'll be put in a shoot first position. The Flyers need more goal scorers, and Potulny is one of the best on the farm.
Richards is put at number one, because it's six years from now. The line will be primarily used as a shut-down line, but also manage to provide some extra offense. Giving those three first line minutes will also free up the second line (Umberger-Carter-Giroux) to eat a lot of minutes on the power-play.
Finally, if Grant and Cote can challenge for a spot on the Flyers then Cabana and Bellamy will steal them. They constantly skate hard, they are strong defensively (should the coach need them pick up an odd shift on the PK), and they will draw penalties out the ***. Your fourth line doesn't necessarily need to provide offense, as long as they do everything else well, which those two do.
