they were talking about forsberg to calgary rumours on the hotstove.

There might be something to this because calgary has something philly desperately needs which is quality defensmen. Although, the flames are not as deep on D as they once were, I think they can still work something out

Great, put Forsberg on a line with Kovy and Sammy and watch them all glide around until they get the puck only to go around 3 guys, not pass it to anyone and then lose it, only to glide towards the bench, look at the coach and say "My linemates' faults".

Actually, I'd love to have Forsberg, but I'd rather Pitkanen...or maybe Calder.

The three guys I would be interested in are Forsberg, Carter and Gauthier. But don't give the moon for Forsberg given that he's injury-prone. Gauthier because most of our guys are softies. And not mean enough.

Gauthier has been just brutal this year, and he has a rediculous contract...It would be a huge mistake to bring him aboard.

The whole Phillie team has been brutal. Nobody plays well right now.

Gauthier has been generally brutal for a while now...

I'd say sure if he was cheap, but he has a $2 mil contract! It's rediculous for the type of player he is.

I think 2 things happened in Philly. The obvious is that Clarke, whether he made a bad call in going big on defense,or gave in to Hithcock's wish list, went big and expereienced on D. Then he compounds the issue by signing Gauthier who to me, is just an example of what was already wrong with the team.

Clarke was smart enough, and agreesive enough to go after Forsberg, but the gap bewteen their top end, Forsberg/Gagne and the young guys on teh other lines was just too much. There's a lesson there in assuming that the Carter's and Richards' of the world can carry the ball that early in their careers. Of course, if Primeau hadn't of gone down, they would have been better insulated, so like usual, there were circumstances.

There's probably a lesson there in our assumption that player x can easily replace player y.

I don't think Philly will deal the guys we'd want. Unless Gainey has magically found a way to change our cap situation and can get Forsberg for a big push this year, I don't see that they'd be dealing what we need. A C or a d man are our needs. Pitkanen isn't going anywhere, so I don't see a fit.

Philly's biggest (but not only) concern right now is on the back end. D and a proven goalie. We can help them with the latter as we are one of the teams with 1a 1b goalies. If they are desperate enough, they may need to trade one of their youngens. I don't know if I'd want to send one of our goalies to Philly, but I'd still talk to see what's available. Can't hurt. Our scouts being there doesn't mean anything is going to happen. Gauthier may have been there the GM job? Pfffft, I think they sent a memo to every coaching staff in the NHL: "Help Wanted! Bad hours but decent pay! Yes-man an asset"

I don't believe either of our goalies would be a 'difference maker', or enough to change the fortunes this year. So why trade the future ? From their perspective,I can't see the fit, unless it's part of something large and complicated. Wouldn't you think any deal Philly would make has to adress more than just this year ?

What would be so awesome about it?? The fact that he is good when in the lineup, or the fact that he only plays about 30 games a year??

Forsberg is a great hockey player....but we don't need to make a blockbuster deal and lose good quality players for him and we don't need to sink big money into him especially since he won't even play 70 games a year!

That's sound more realistic than a trade .We don't have a lot of cap space , and it's the same for the Flyers . So , i don't see how we can get a Gagné without giving 5 m$ value player(s) in return .

I don't see either the Flyers trading for one of our goaler ; They are having too much bad experience with number #1 that are not enough good , to bring them far in the playoffs . I don't see them going for Abeisher or Huet ; they are not enough proven .

But if they propose a Abeisher - Ryder for Gagné , hum , i would say yes for sure ...
