Franson's Rights

I'd like to keep Franson, but from an inside source on Leafs board, it seems leafs are now discussing the possibility of a trade.

Who would want him, and what would your club offer?

Probably a draft pick. Not getting a roster player/top prospect for his rights IMO.

Like I've said, it all depends on what he's looking for. If he's looking for an expensive contract now, he's not going to get it.

What he should do is accept a deal around 2.5/3 with the Leafs for 1 year and then try and cash in on the open market where it's likely to happen. That's only if he can have another strong season and not struggle to stay in the Leafs lineup like the season before.

Cody Franson and Nikolai Kulemin to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Brooks Orpik, Jussi Jokinen and the Penguins 1st round draft pick of 2014.

This guy is a GM's nightmare. There's always something going on with his rights or eligibility or contract. He's had one decent season and doesn't even always play top-4 or play at all.

If I'm Nonis I'd just trade his rights to somewhere horrible to spite him.

Or Vancouver because they don't have any defensemen with size and he wouldn't play ahead of anyone in the top-4.

Would be a nice fit for NYR, need a righty, but can't swing the cap.

Just out of curiosity, what would you want? REALISTICALLY.

I ask again, why? You realize you're trading for Franson's rights, meaning he has no contract. Trading important top nine forwards for a players rights, in which you don't even know will re-sign with you, isn't going to help our scoring.

Why would I be joking? Why would I trade an important top nine forward for a player that may not re-sign with us (like you're seeing with the Leafs right now)? Why would I trade Higgins and make our scoring woes even bigger?

Whatta joke

We should trade Kadri's rights for a 3rd while we're at it

I don't think you quite get it. Trading for Franson (from a Canucks POV, keep this in mind) is pointless, useless, and unnecessary. We can't afford to be trading any top nine forwards because it only hurts our scoring, which is dreadful as is. We already have an RFA of our own that is taking long enough to re-sign in Tanev.

If your not gona give a quality offer then don't even try.

Giving us a C level prospect and a 7th rounder is just embarrasing.

A solid B prospect + 2nd rounder is probably good.

Douglas Murray went for two 2nds last deadline. Fransons rights are controllable for longer, and he's the better player. Should get more in a trade.

Or Id be happy to move him for a legitimate top 4 defensive defenceman to a team that needs help on the PP.

Franson's rights will only net a good return if the Leafs allow teams to talk to him and his agent to negotiate a deal... and that's only if Franson isn't asking for some ridiculous contract.
