Best tweet I saw on Young being DFA'd was that he was only 9 AB away from a $150K bonus but, more importantly, only 11 days away from the Jewish Heritage Night promotion

Honest Question: Is there anyone in this bullpen worth keeping?

I thought DeFratus was going to be alright but obviously he's not. All of them have an inability to throw strikes and a complete lack of intestinal fortitude. At this point I feel like maybe they should just clean house there.

I like Diekman and Aumont as projects. Yup, that's about it.

They are so damn wild though. It's great you can throw 97 mph but absolutely meaningless if you can't throw it for strikes or it comes in straight as an arrow. Every major leaguer can hit that fastball. And neither of them has adjusted at all. It's the same damn thing every single outing.

A pretty good representation of their previous 20 games.

That's great, I knew about the AB part but not the Jewish part.

This team...

If I wanted to watch "protaganists" who are old, have too much money and put out a product that is harmful to my health, Breaking Bad comes back on tonight at 9.

I hope they lose every one of them & Amaro gets canned for it.

I doubt they pull the plug, but there's really no point to bring him back for another season. He's never going to truly rebuild this team because he's always going to patch holes to try and keep this team competitive and try to save his job. How you sit on your thumbs at the deadline is beyond me. Get some new blood in here to build this team the right way.

Yup, it's wishful thinking on my part. His seats getting a little warmer but I think he gets another year. I would hope they bring in someone new to coincide with the new tv deal.

My real hope for this upcoming is that he doesn't tie this team down with anymore dumb contracts this winter though.

Firing Amaro would be a good start but this team is like one of those houses on that 'buried alive' show. Fixing this mess is not going to be an easy project.

The phils most recent 1st round pick JP Crawford has had a great debut in rookie ball, should end up in Lakewood (low A) next season. He leads the GCL in AVG, OBP, OPS and is fifth in SLG, tied for fifth in SB and sixth in BB. A small ray of sunshine in what has been a brutal year in the organization (majors and minors)

Should be interesting to see who they look at for Sept call ups.

Some updates:

Quote:
Roy Halladay will make an official minor-league rehabilitation start Thursday for the Phillies’ Gulf Coast League team, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Monday.

If all goes well in that start, Halladay will make another minor-league start five days later. If he checks out fine after that one, he could return to the Phillies’ rotation in the final week of August.

......................................

Ryan Howard is recovering from knee surgery in Florida. He has not yet begun to swing a bat, and Amaro is uncertain whether he will play again this season.

“I have no idea when or if he is going to be back this year,” Amaro said. “If he’s 100 percent and doing baseball activities, it’s possible. But there’s no reason to rush him back.”

Working with Phillies injury-rehab staff, Howard has lost “15 to 20 pounds,” Amaro said.

............................................

In other news, outfielder Laynce Nix, who was designated for assignment last week, cleared waivers and declined assignment to Triple A. He has been released.

I'm surprised at Nix clearing waivers. He's not an all star, but he's a pretty solid bench guy. He can play the outfield and first base, and still hits righties fairly decently. He's a career .250 hitter against lefties. Not great by any means but I would think someone would want him for a late inning AB vs. righty or a spot start vs. a righty. Guess not.

So far Hamels has pitched great, but the poor guy can't get any run support.

Nix is in his own head. He was so locked in at the beginning of the year and then just hit the wall. Pinch hitting is one of the hardest things in sports to do and it can eat you up if you let it.

he has scored the only run tonight after tripling. Saw a stat that before counting tonight's game in 156 innings he has pitched, the Phillies have score 40 runs for him. That is like a 1.65 era .

He now has 4 runs to work with as Asche just hit a 3 run bomb.

Damn! Did anyone else get a text from Bleacher Report about an Braves fan who fell from the upper deck and died? Sad stuff.

Asche has definitely been impressing me. May not be hitting the best, which comes with time, but his defense is pretty damn nice.

Hamels with a CG. Asche with a few good swings. Chuck get's his 1000 career victory.
