Sounds like you want the team gone. What's your beef with them?

Sixers offer head coaching job to Brett Brown who is one of gregg popovich's top assistants. I hope he takes it, great selection, the wait will have been worth it if he accepts.

The Philadelphia 76ers are engaged in contract negotiations to try and make San Antonio Spurs assistant Brett Brown the franchise's new head coach, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Brown has been offered the job, but the sides have to come to an agreement on contract length and compensation, sources said.

For the past seven years, Brown has been a bench assistant coach under Gregg Popovich with San Antonio. He joined the Spurs for a second time in 2001.

They're not going to move the Sixers. David Stern would throw a fit, and few if any owners would approve it.

Can't wait to see how far off the deep end this will go though

This is the 4th largest media market, they wont move them. There is too much potential if/when they get good again.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/PHI.html

Ill be happy when this year is over, alot of contracts will be expiring.

Spencer Hawes, Even turner, Lavoy Allen, Kwame Brown

Also there is a cap hit of 788k of holiday on the books for this year even though he was traded, but that comes off end of year.

Are any of the above worth resigning, the payroll drops to 23 million after this season.

Plenty of Cap Space, plus 2 1st rd picks and there might be more if hinkie trades any of the current roster to contending teams in feb.

so we know this year is a washout prehaps maybe we get 1st overall pick in lottery as a grand prize for the tank job this season.

I hope next years draft is better then this past. I wonder who the Free Agents will be next year worth taking a shot, lol lebron can opt out of heat. Ok I know lebron won't be a sixer but a man can dream.

I say we need to get a big man, and if I know anything about the Spurs if Brett takes the job is that he will want 2 Big men plus some on bench, you might see Hinkie and Brett Brown go in that direction plus add shooters

Lol like New Jersey is an upgrade , I remember there was a Nets game were there wasn't even 1,000 people in the stands which is sad. The reason the 76ers are not drawing well in attendance is because they are below mediocre, they had no superstar for years , Iggy was not even close to a super star. The Sixers have a good history in Philadelphia , The Commissioner will most likely not allow the Sixers to be moved. I would be beyond pissed if they moved , I'm not some bandwagon , I go to my fair share of games and enjoy watching them play on TV , I can not possibly watch or support them if the name has New Jersey on the front of it. Hopefully Stern would do this franchise a solid and rig that precious draft lottery of his , like he so often does.

But knowing our luck , we will finish dead last , and wind up losing the lottery.

lol, people actually think the Sixers will move? You don't move a major sports franchise from Philadelphia. Period.

you do realize those teams were moved when we had some other baseball team called the phillies.

also they moved prior to this area having 3+ million cable boxes in the homes.

the NBA board of governors will not approve the move.

Look what happened with Kings, they were pretty much written off heading to seattle, and the BOG rejected the move and they stay in SAC still hoping to get a new building.

the sixers have been horrible last decade, but the cycle turns.

After this year, sixers payroll drops to 23m. They are going to have alot of cash to spend, they are going to have as of now 2 1st rd picks to go along with player they got in the draft for Holiday.

Hinkie, is slowly going to take the blue print he put in houston and put it here, I just hope that Brett Brown takes the job and a contract is being worked out now which is good.

Sixers future is much better after this year, because they will have assets.

The NBA will be very happy to see sixers become compeitive again, hopefully a playoff contending team down the road. having a tv market of 3million cable boxes is ideal for the NBA.

the NBA ultimate goal would be to see philly play, boston, lakers, Knicks in playoff games

In 1985 Eagles owner Leonard Tows was about to move the team to Phoenix. THE EAGLES. Not some 2nd team in town baseball clue 70 years ago and not a basketball team with Wilt Chamberlain in his prime, but the beloved NFL team that people in the city largely ignored till Buddy Ryan came along.

The key fact to this post is that the team wasn't moved. It would be pretty shocking and unlikely if the 76ers moved. I'd never say never, but I can't imagine the fourth or fifth biggest media market in the country not having a basketball team, especially a media market that is so sports-driven.

I loathe the NBA as much as anyone, but people thinking the Sixers will move from Philly are just delusional. As has been repeatedly pointed out, Philly is the 4th/5th largest media market in the U.S. Losing that would be a big blow to the NBA.

Let's not forget that the 2000 run to the Finals was huge in Philly. When Pat Croce was running the show, people flocked to the games. Even I watched Sixers games back then. When the Sixers aren't a laughingstock, this is a great basketball town. It's just that they've been so incompetently run over the past decade+ that people see no reason to support them.

Plenty of sports franchises from major markets have been rumored to be on the move and the closeness of relocation wasn't subtle but generally done as leverage for new complexes. The Chicago White Sox were nearly all set in being relocated to the St. Pete area in the late 80s. The San Diego Padres to Washington in the 70s was so close that Topps Baseball cards printed "Washington" on players' cards and uniforms were designed. Just a few years ago, the Patriots, though historically not nearly as popular as the current rendition and arguably the fourth most popular pro team in the region, flirted with a move to Connecticut.

I am not positive uniforms are online but I can search. Here is a card:

Edit: There is a pic...

The Padres stayed due to an ownership change to Ray Kroc (McDonald's owner). He also owned the San Diego team in the WHA around that time.

Awesome. Awesome to the max. I love baseball card misprints and goofs. My all-time favorite is the Billy Ripken "***** FACE" card. An aboslute classic.

Here' is a column on some of this discussion...

Quote:
So, the play, as it begins: Position for a new arena, raise the value of the franchise, sell, then shed your shirt and run around the playing surface, soccer-goal-scorer style.

If Harris controls the Devils, he will have some measure of stature in New Jersey, where the governor did not muffle his anger when the Nets big-timed the state and moved to Brooklyn. That status could be used to hint at — if not plan for — a South Jersey arena somewhere near where Katz once thought one would be appropriate, theoretically to house the 76ers.

Harris knows he cannot threaten a Sixers move to Newark. The Nets and Knicks have rights to that market, the NBA would seltzer-bottle him if he tried to move a team into it, and Philadelphia is too deep a basketball city to leave it free of a basketball team. There will be no threat of the Sixers moving north. None. East, though, is always in play.

If New Jersey executes the play correctly, it could have two big-league arenas, one on either pole of the state, one for hockey, one for hoops, both for circuses and concerts, all with the ability to lure promoters with a two-for-one special. It could take years. But, again, the play is just setting up.

Should the Sixers start flirting with Camden, then Pennsylvania would have to attempt to fight through the screen, exactly like the last time. The difference is that the Sixers’ owner may well be embedded in the New Jersey sports-and-entertainment movement by then. That doesn’t mean that Harris would have a rooting interest between the states. It just means that he can help to see that the stakes rise.

The Camden thing could be interesting because you could look at it as part of a larger destination. What if besides building an arena there that could take away revenue from Wells Fargo and put it in the NJ pocket they also built a CASINO there? It's obvious the reason why tax revenue from the AC casinos has declined sharply ever since PA and DE added machine gambling/and or now table games to casinos/racetracks.

Putting one in Camden would be a step in getting back some of that.
