Grade/Discuss Matt Martin

http://islanders.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8474709

For what he is, he does everything that is asked of him. He always aggressive and always willing to pound someone. Would like to see him shoot more and go to the net when the opportunity arises.

For what he is, I give him an A.

Love him, but sometimes he goes out of position too much to make the hit. I know the rest of his game is capable of being better, but I'll give him a B.

I particularly like about MM that he's very disciplined in what he does. Controlled aggression, very intelligent.

Matt Martin is a guy every team wants. He hits everything in sight, and stays fairly disciplined while doing so. That is HUGE.

I like what he has done recently steering clear(mostly clear) of the staged heavyweight bouts. He's more valuable than that and obviously he(and the coaching staff) sees it. He'll defend his boys with the fists and is damn good at it. On his hot stretches he does a decent job in front of the net on the PP, and I like that look when someone on the 1st unit needs a rest.

With him and Buck, opposing Dmen are going to hate going back to get the chips. This year will be interesting, and I am very excited to see if he can contribute even more as he rounds out. Great role player and happy to have him on the Island

A- (with room to grow!)

I have to give him a A+++++ (no i'm not biased). All kidding aside, I always look back at that Rangers game when our 4th line was the only part of the team that showed up through the 1st 25 minutes or so (he really stood out). We came back and won that game and I beLIeve that was a turning point in our season. He leads the league in hits the last 2 years and fights when he needs, but yet very few penalties considering he hits everything that moves and if I recall not 1 major the last 2 years (not exactly sure). He shows up every night. I gave him a A+ because what else can you give a guy who does everything that's asked of him?

I gave him a B because I actually think he is better offensively than he shows right now. I can't remember the game but he had a short handed breakaway and he missed the net by a mile. Of course we don't need him to score 20 as long as he punishes people with clean hits and drops the mitts when need be, but I think he can definitely a better scorer and be the hit man. One of the few untouchables for me.

I have to say, Martin is a surprisingly fast hockey player. It's weird because I always end up thinking Oh wow, Martin is pretty quick at least once a game.

Also I gave him an A. He's great at the role he fills right now even if he does have more offensive upside.

And thank god we finally have a real 'Energy Line' instead of 'Old Vet Plug'

seems like a "team first" guy, knows his role on the team--and seems to enjoy playing it--but could probably help a little more offensively. i wish i could find the scouting report that said he could be the next cam neely.

i love the kid, im happier than ********* that he skates on long island and not manhattan.

B-

i may be a bit lower than most, but it's only because i think he has more to show. i don't think it's his fault, though. i think that the coaching staff will realize that he is better than a 4th liner soon, and his stats will get better.

definitely give him an A+ for intangibles...

gave him a B- for the same reason. you people giving him an A don't really want a complete player, huh?

i think, as we have seen with the evaluation of our prospects, that people are using different criteria.

i LOVE what he brings, so his 'current value', to me, is A+. but, because i think he has more to give, as to 'achieving his potential', i give him a B- ...

it's all good though.

on the main board, there is a thread in which the OP asks people to submit a team of their favorite players, using their favorite team as a base, and staying under the cap. Martin was on a few teams, telling me that he is being appreciated by opposing fans.

niiiice....

He's one of, if not the, best in his role in the entire NHL. He gets an A from me.
