Putting one in Camden would be a step in getting back some of that.
Let say there is a big holy molly plan for camden NJ area on southwards let say between the Betsy Bridge to commodore along 295 / 130.

I wonder if the NJ govenr, harris and a big financial group have secret plans to basically totally remake camden area, i mean build new homes, apartments, have jobs / industry put warehouses etc, also building a bigger water front with a casino plus an arena.

the other side to it is I'll bet the NBA, city of philadelphia is also thinking of something like this and will try and prevent the sixers from leaving.

Source: Brett Brown named Sixers head coach

Nice..Hinkie doing a nice job so far. Gonna show Holmgren how it's done.

The Sixers finally have a head coach.

A source confirmed to CSNPhilly.com's John Gonzalez that the Sixers and Brett Brown have agreed to a deal to make him the team's 24th head coach.

SI.com reported Monday morning that it is a four-year contract.

PHILADELPHIA — Four months later, the Philadelphia 76ers have a new coach.

The Sixers have hired San Antonio assistant Brett Brown to replace Doug Collins, who resigned in April.

Multiple media outlets, including The Associated Press, Philly.com and SI.com, reported on the hiring. The 76ers have yet to announce the hiring.

New general manager Sam Hinkie took quite a while looking for a replacement before choosing Brown, who was part of three NBA title teams with San Antonio. The 52-year-old Brown was an assistant under Gregg Popovich since 2002.

That is true, although "flirted" is certainly not how the folks in CT took it at the time (I was still living there then, just finishing up HS). When Kraft leveraged Hartford's interest to get the new stadium in Foxboro, the state was pretty outraged, and a lot of CT Patriots' fans turned their backs on the team. Not that Bob Kraft cares, since he's rolling in money, but it looked like a very close to done deal for a bit there, and when it blew up people went a bit bonkers.

Still, look at these deals people are bringing up. Moves from the mid-90s, 80s, 70s. Nothing really all that modern, and almost all of the ones that have happened in the past 20 years were to get leverage for better stadiums/lease deals. Actually moving teams from major markets like this (outside of LA, where no one seems to care) just doesn't really happen.

And CAMDEN? People think that could really happen? I guess they can continue to build the waterfront area up, so that they've got the aquarium, the ballpark, the USS New Jersey, and then a new arena. But I can't fathom that really happening. I mean, it's Camden for God's sake.

Well that's certainly an exciting thought, albeit a ways away. As a Jersey resident I love the idea, especially adding a casino closer to Philly and Cherry Hill than Parx (although you have to believe AC would throw a fit even though they let themselves shrivel up). NJ once had several prosperous cities, and I think the state is trying to bring them back (Newark and New Brunswick having made the most progress more recently). Not out of the question to think that they would make a more serious investment in Camden if given the chance with an owner looking to build.

On a different note, just wanted to say that if Harris buys the Devils I am absolutely becoming a Sixers fan. If they move to Camden, I may even buy season tickets.. Kind of excited to get back into basketball and feel like I have a team again

Yeah I don't see it happening. They place has been under "revitalization" and "redevelopment" or whatever else you want to call for the past couple decades. Adding a new arena for a crappy basketball team isn't going to make it any better.

I can't even picture an arena in Camden. The place is a dump. Even the municipal area.

Vancouver to Memphis in the NBA, perhaps, but that was a Canadian-based franchise.

Brett Brown brings a new voice to the Sixers by Bob Ford:

Sixers make it official, hire Brett Brown

http://www.nba.com/2013/news/08/14/s...s=iref:nbahpts

Quote:
The deal was completed earlier in the week, and Brown was officially introduced as the 24th head coach in franchise history on Wednesday. Brown is the eighth coach to lead the Sixers since Larry Brown left in 2003.

Collins resigned in April after the Sixers went 34-48, a year after advancing to the Eastern Conference semifinals. He led the Sixers to the playoffs his first two seasons and left with one year remaining on his original four-year deal.

"We went through an exhaustive search to find the right head coach for our organization, one who had a passion for developing talent, a strong work ethic to help create the kind of culture we hope for, and a desire to continually improve," general manager Sam Hinkie said. "Brett has all of that. He also has a wealth of experience as a head coach and a championship pedigree, to boot. We are delighted to welcome him as our coach, and I am invigorated for the two of us to roll up our sleeves and get to work."

Tears of joy , finally the Sixers are doing the right things and moving on from being mediocre 7th/8th seed or middle of the pack. I can finally actually be excited to watch a Sixers game now with Noel and MCW, and a new coach , so refreshing.

well this season will be a washout and will stink, unless coach brown has magic powers to make the current group good.

but the sixers big step towards being a better team comes in offseason nxt year.

draft picks and money to spend

my fantasy would be to see sixers get lebron james who can be free next season.

kobe could also be available

i doubt those 2 would play here, but a man can dream

Yea I know they will be terrible next year but , I meant it will be exciting to finally get a top 5 pick and already have our future center. Can't wait to see Noel play.

Bump.

Sixers trade future second round pick for ex 2012 first round pick Tony Wroten.

Another low risk - high reward move.

Love it. Between Royce White and Wroten, Hinkie's got two of the most talented layers in last year's draft class. Like MCW, his jumper is broke but this guy is very talented. 6'6 PG that at times can look like Rondo. He's only 20, and actually 18 months younger than MCW. And the pick they gave up is top 50 protected!!!

Yeah, he basically got a late 1st round pick for nothing. Seems like Hinkie's made more of these small, smart moves in a about ten seconds than the last few Sixers GMs made in their entire tenures.

I'm liking this Hinkie chap more and more.....his moves so far have rhyme and reason. Whether they pan out is another matter but I like the Sixers trajectory thus far under his helm. This year is going to be pretty painful in some respects but once it's time for next year's lottery it will all be forgotten. Would love it if we landed Wiggins and a big time FA!

I also hope the Sixers and Hinkie have success to show Snider that he needs to get out of this family run business mindset of his. Bringing in Hextall who spent some time elsewhere at least was a half-step but still I like the Hinkie types who think out of the box...

It's one thing to tank when there's 1 superstud in the draft...but the tanking advantage this year is that the top 3(possibly top 4 if that Aussie kid decides to be in the draft instead of going to NCAA) is that those top 4 are probably better than more than half of the #1 picks in the last 10 years.

There is going to be bustage...There always is... but the chances of getting a legit franchise player is greater in the top of this draft than any draft in quite some time.

Agree..Sixers should be pretty set regardless but....I just wish for once the Sixers could secure the sure thing even though in 96 they kind of did but didn't considering Bryant and Nash were chosen later. This might be a 96 repeat draft class or better...
