Constantly thundering and lightning out here by Drayton Valley. Not a lot of rain but it is really humid. Had a tree knocked down in the yard.

Is it just me or do half the vicious storms in the province happen between say Drayton Valley and Sylvan lake/Red Deer area? Seems like anytime theres bad storms anywhere there is in that region.

Drayton Valley is part of the area in which most thunderstorms form for central Alberta due to its location after the cool air comes down from the Rockey Mountains. It is the reason why they name their AJHL team the Thunder.

City of Edmonton - St. Albert - Sherwood Park
9:44 PM MDT Sunday 11 August 2013
Severe thunderstorm warning for
City of Edmonton - St. Albert - Sherwood Park issued

At 9:45 PM MDT meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms extending from Tomahawk to 10 km west of Leduc. These thunderstorms are moving to the northeast at 20 KM/H and have the potential to produce large hail, strong wind gusts and heavy rainfall.

Take cover, if threatening weather approaches.

Strong wind gusts and hail can damage property and cause injuries. Local downpours can cause flash floods.

Avoid driving through water on roads. Even shallow fast moving water across a road can sweep a vehicle away.

In Canada, lightning kills up to 10 people every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.

Environment Canada continues to monitor the situation closely. Please continue to monitor your local media or Weatheradio for further updates. If you would like to report severe weather, you can call 1-800-239-0484 or send an email to storm@ec.gc.ca.

Just drove back from Calgary and while there wasn't a drop on my windshield the storm was like a strobe light on my left.

Could be a big one.

In my years of Storm Chasing, the key-areas to watch for the worst-of-the-worst Storms are:

1)Edmonton Region
2)Leduc east to the Saskatchewan Border
3)Red Deer to Calgary

I'm sitting on the tarmac in Calgary... was originally supposed to leave at 11:30 but ended up rebooking and finding an earlier flight (paid $150 for my mom and I) one which was scheduled to depart @10:10... just before we were about to take off I notice a ton of light flashes across the sky to the north/northwest... made me kind of worried. Then they come over the intercom and tell us about the impending delay because of the weather in E Town... It sounds like we won't be leaving till at least 11pm. Money well spent! Mother Nature always has her own plans...

Being as I won't be home until later tonight, I left my motorcycle in the garage today. She'd be getting drenched tonight, apparently.
