Flyers fan here trying to get a scouting report on Hanzal. Noticed you guys had no active player discussion for him. What is Hanzals value and how valuable is he to the Coyotes? I realize he was injured for the majority of the season last year, but was wondering if you expect a big bounce back year from him?

He's a force in all three zones. Elite shut down player. Puck possession monster. Enormous, mean as ****, and just a truly unique, unbelievably valuable player. He's all of those things for 50% of each season. For 25% he's sitting out injured, and the other 25% he's either playing injured or playing rusty from coming back after injury, so he's not even half as effective as he normally is.
  • 40ish games, he's a truly special, incredibly valuable player.
  • 20ish games, ineffective due to injuries.
  • 20ish games, sitting out with injury.

He's probably my favorite player (Purchased his jersey after we went to the conference championship a couple years ago) Very good player when 100%. Very valuable for a team with terrible/no centers. But rt put it perfectly.

One of the most underrated players in the NHL period.

Damn pretty much nailed it perfectly. I'm really hoping the decision to pull the plug and get that surgery pays off and he's able to come back and play mostly a full season. He's so rough and tumble I doubt he'll ever have an 82 game season but if he could get near the 65-72 range (without the longer rust inducing IR stints) that'd be awesome!

So do I, but IIRC this is the second time he's had this surgery done.

Agreed.

I kind of hope he is traded even though Hanzal is one of my favourite players. He may do better in the east where he has less travel and the Coyotes should get a quality return.

Oh, heck. That may be correct. Kinda rings a bell, but I'm hopeful that THIS surgery did the trick, and his upside rt mentioned is able to shine for far longer in future seasons.

Yup. 2008 and this February (http://www.todaysslapshot.com/nhl-we...o-get-healthy/)

I've had that injury but fortunately did not require surgery; that didn't keep it from being 10-12 of the worst weeks of my life, however. I have a beer league teammate that's had like four of them. At our level it doesn't seem to affect him that much, but what mobility he had is just about gone.
