Conspiracy Thread: Nedved

Anyone else find it too convenient that the Flyers have recalled Nedved right after it became public that Higgins would be out for a long stretch? I think they're baiting the Habs, myself, knowing that he fills a gap.

Would you bite? Do you think Gainey will?

$750,000 is an easy pill to swallow (although supposedly it's somewhere closer to $1,000,000), and if he doesn't work out, you can just toss him on waivers, and down to the farm as well. I think Montreal should give it a look at the very least.

Yes, TSN said that they're hoping someone picks him up (or that's what they're speculating, anyway), but I think they have the Habs in mind in particular. Gainey and the Flyers' GM may have even worked out a deal in advance. Flyers call him up, Habs claim him for half salary. I wouldn't be surprised to see this go down.

How did Nedved salary go from 2.280M to 1.500M?

Exactly...

IMO its a cheap price to pay for a veteran centerman. Nedved is only 34 and this may be a wake up call of some sort for him in terms of turning around his career.

I wouldn't do it just yet. I'd try to look for the solution internally before taking Nedved on.

Are you suggesting Kosty or Lapierre?

The Habs don't need Nedved.Someone in the minors would do a much better job

25pts in 53 games last year desnt look to bad. Didnt see him play though. He is in the minors for a reason...on a sucky team.

Nedved is D-O-N-E.

01-02: 21-25-46 78GP
02-03: 27-31-58 78GP (last decent season)
03-04: 19-27-46 in 81GP
04-05: Lockout
05-06: 7-18-25 in 54GP
06-07: 0-0-0 in 6GP

Bring someone or pick up another good player in the deal... But Nedved is DONE like Hatcher is.

I don't think we should be bringing in anymore rookies. We have enough young players as it is. We need someone who can take instructions and fit into Carbo's system right away.

I think he'd be a good short-term solution. The East is too tight to be experimenting with rookies for 6 weeks. A slump could be the difference between top-5 and no playoffs.

Either of the two would be worth trying before Nedved. If neither can be effective, then go after Nedved. But they deserve a look, especially Lappy, the way he's playing right now.

I don't understand the obsession with expired brand names.

Why doesn't Darcy Regier go after Nedved to replace Afinogenov?

Good GMs try to solve their problems internally first.

Why Hatcher is in the NHL and Nedved in the AHL ?

He's done...

Made a move or bring up some young players...

Why go after expired brand name ? Nedved was good until 2000-2001... 2002 if you're generous...

NO WAY!!!!!!!!

I'm just kicking Hatcher while he's down. I'd definitely rather have nedved than Hatcher this season though, there's no question about that for me.

Nedved is an inexpensive risk, that might payoff, but you're right, odds are he won't payoff, at least nothing large.

According to TSN any team that would pick him up would only be on the hook for 750 000 on the cap

http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=183299&hubname=nhl

He's a better number 2 C then Montreal has had in years.

Samsonov Nedved Kovalev
Ryder Koivu Perez (until Higgins returns)

Lantendresse has not earned 1st line duty

That being said I would rather see Kostsitsyn or Grabovsky be given a chance first

Not saying Nedved's anywhere near an ideal solution, but this actually makes some sense. This would basically be a low cost patch-up experiment. Probably for the bottom lines and the PK.

Wouldn't cost anything in terms of players going the other way. Would cost 1/2 his salary. Would basically be just another body to fill-in for now. And if he ends up a failed experiment, would be easy to dump him later by waiving him again. Team needs insurance because guys like Murray & Downey can't both play and youngsters like Lapierre & Kostitsyn may or may not deliver.

That's an important point. He hasn't, and I think asking him to play upwards of 20 mins a game might be a mistake. Kostitsyn and Lapierre aren't top-6 solutions, either. As for promoting someone off a checking line, Johnson is an option, but then why split up Johnson-Bonk when they have such good chemistry? I don't think Carbonneau would do that.

Nedved, on the other hand, could be brought in cheap and sent down again if he didn't work out. The cap hit wouldn't be that bad, and the upside is that if he does work out and finds his game, we've got two solid lines again.

It seem we have nothing to lose by trying this out. The absolute worst thing that can happen is that Nedved tanks. To my mind, that's close to what you're going to get from Kostitsyn or Lapierre. Neither of those guys would be making a significant contribution. They're too green.

Must agree might be a good temp solution though bringing a young guy up might be best. I think a lot will depend on what happens tonight.
