I'd consider Avstyn a bust... Not because he couldn't make the NHL. He was a long shot to make it when we drafted him... Because he was an alleged pure offensive prospect that was never even able to put up numbers in the AHL.

Has there ever been a player that was passed over for 2 drafts that made the NHL???

I am just wondering...I hope he turns into a Cammy like player

There are a ton of NHL players who were never drafted at all.

I'm surprised no one took a flyer on him last season. He led Rouyn in scoring by almost 20 points. It would have looked a lot better picking him over Nystrom in the 6th round and picking up someone else at 86th this year. Hindsight does suck sometimes.

This list is long...
Martin St-Louis (undrafted)
Rene Bourque (undrafted)
Dan Boyle (undrafted)
David Clarksson (undrafted)
Mark Streit (9th round, overager)
etc.

My bet is that Timmins would have waited till the 5th round to pick him if Montreal had a pick that far. He instead used his last quality pick in the 3rd round to get that guy.

At this point, I feel he is according to HF criterias a 7.0B while McCarron is more of a 7.5D.

The NHL leading scorer last season has never been drafted.

The 7th leading scorer wasn't drafted either.

The 10th leading scorer was drafted in his 3rd year of eligibility, like Andrighetto.

My bet is that he wouldn't have been available anymore in the 5th.

People who compare him to Cammy are spot on. Really plays a game of speed and an amazing shot. He seems to have all of the tools to succeed.

Desharnais, Burrows -- 100s of players were never drafted.

He shares very little in common with Cammalleri other than being a smaller guy who can shoot the puck. Cammalleri is a poor skater and Andrighetto can already skate circles around him. He is also a much more cerebral player and has the potential to be a better playmaker.

Andrighetto may never end up with the career that Cammalleri has had but he actually has better tools to work with.......

Agreed. Don't see the Andrighetto-Cammalleri comparison. Cammalleri is a pure shooter. He is pretty average if not below average in most other aspects of the game.

I see Andrighetto's upside as a Marchand type player minus the agitator aspect. A guy who can score, make plays, is elusive, can be spectacular at times, be also battles hard and plays with lots of intensity and can be relied upon for tough minutes.

Another comparable that's maybe more realistic is Jussi Jokinen whose style is comparable IMO.

I've made the same Marchand comparison......not really feeling the Jokinen one as he can be very timid and soft for long stretches. Derek Roy is another player who I think that there are some interesting comparables with.

I think the Habs brass may have figured Roy would be recommending highly that Andrighetto be picked by Colorado in the fourth round...especially after his performance in knocking the Remparts out of the playoffs. Not to mention his obvious connection to Tourigny..who he ended up hiring. I know that Tourigny absolutely loves Andrighetto, and that he would have been talking to the Avalanche before the draft.

Tourigny swears that Andrighetto will be an NHLer. You don't wait until the fifth round for those players usually.

Tourigny pretty much told MAG the Avs were going to pick him with their 4th.

http://www.lapresse.ca/sports/hockey...u-canadien.php

Tourigny et l'Avalanche espéraient qu'Andrighetto soit encore disponible en quatrième ronde, mais ils se doutaient bien qu'une autre formation mettrait le grappin dessus.

Andrighetto was going to be Quebec's pick at 2nd overall in the 2011 import draft if Grigorenko had decided to stay in Russia. Roy already knew Sven was really good. Claude Lemieux is Andrighetto's agent, so the connection was there. Lemieux is also Adam Erne and Nick Sorensen's agent. He is also the agent of Quebec's new import player.
