And Pele was there, hah.
That's good to hear. Will Hofstra be their home field?

Yep. For this year anyway. I know they'll be getting their own stadium sometime in the future. Way cooler than the Red Bulls I think.

Make-believe stadiums often do look cooler than existing ones.

Even if they built that, filling it with 8k fans to watch NASL level ball would be a bit of a rotten core to the big apple.

Hofstra's stadium holds 12k and sold out. If that stadium is built they'll be moved into (not promoted) the MLS for sure.

I think FC NY would have something to
Say about that since they are the 20 th team and owned by Yankees-Man city. Plus cosmos don't want to pay expansion fee and then be told you have a salary cap. Stadium built in LI is a terible idea anyway.

The American approach to soccer is all wrong. Trying to start teams that bear the name "NY" and expect everyone in the city to fall in line and love the team. Support for clubs start at the grass roots local level and builds up from there. This trickle down strategy of the MLS is all wrong. This new NYCFC should have no say as to wether or not the Cosmos make the MLS. It should be entirely based on merit. The best teams go up, the bad ones go down. Marrying one team to 19 others and vice versa stagnates growth.

I hope we will drop the cap, single entity, ect soon. But right now the powers that be in MLS believe it is the only way to keep the league from spending its way into oblivion like the old NASL.

And how can the Cosmos be promoted immediately when we have teams paying 100 million dollars to buy into MLS?

Maybe down the line, but right now, Cosmos had the chance to buy into the league and chose NASL instead.

The Altidore-Di Canio relationship will either be a match made in heaven or hell. There is no middle ground with two personalities like that.

Players unlikely to play in 2016...

Donovan
Dempsey
Jones
Howard
Goodson

Players likely to play in 2016...

Altidore
Bradley
Chandler
Gonzalez
Besler
Johannsson
Diskerud

So while this may be the last world cup for the legendary Donovan Dempsey pairing, the United States has a lot to look forward to going forward. Altidore's confidence coming off this EPL season will be crucial for the USMNT.

a 12 game winning streak, 4 shy of the world record is something to be exited about. If the USMNT can sweep their last 4 world cup qualifiers, they will have the longest international win streak of all time.

Keep in mind that we have NEVER won a game in Costa Rica before. While I would be happy with a tie down there.......

With the exception of Germany the other 11 wins are against 3 rd world countries that they should have no business losing too.

Germany was without the players from Bayern, Dortmund and Real, so pretty much without their first team. Although that doesn't mean much for friendlies seeing the Paraguay game...

Wondolowski?

Also, Altidore has a nice shot, but whenever I watch him he seems... disengaged. Needs to be more active.

Until recently I felt the same but with the way he plays... a guy his size can't be sprinting the full 90.

Ibrahimovic,, Drogba, these guys didn't exactly have a great work rate either.

Still the USMNT needs a faster guy up front with Dempsey and Altidore being who they are. Donovan, EJ and AJ aren't world bbeaters with speed, but they at least keep the defense aware. Josh Gatt is a long shot to make the USMNT by 2014.

The stature of a nation has nothing to do with wether or not you should beat them. It's quite often for a great team in bad form to lose to an average team in great form.

Anyway, 3 pts for the Reds today! lovely. Always makes the 8am beers taste a lot better

So what are the world rankings of those countries in those even big wins?

Man U off to a strong start. 2 from RVP and 2 from Welbeck. That last goal was a thing of beauty. Nice pass from Rooney and DW with a beautiful chip touch to put the bulge in the back of the onion bag...

The USMNT was ranked 4th in all FIFA going into the 06 world cup where they didn't win a game.

They just beat a higher ranked team, and dropped in the rankings due to points.

FIFA rankings are one of the biggest jokes out there. But, if we're going to use them...

Germany is ranked #2
Panama is 40th
Costa Rica 42nd
Honduras 43rd

those are teams the U.S. beat in CONCACAF, for comparison Panama, Costa Rica and Hondras are right around Ireland, Scotland, Austria, Australia, Slovenia. Very real teams.

Both the last two goals were set up by brilliant play from Rooney, his run opened up space for Persie's left foot and the pass on the second was fantastic as well.

Great start, but I hate seeing everyone celebrate a goal and Rooney is all by himself not with the team
