Watched some clips of Bure yesterday on TSN, my god did he make people look stupid. Datsyuk has had a few, but nothing like Bure. Yet somehow after dancing around everyone he was able to put the puck in only places that you can do on Ea sports hockey.

I'm enjoying the armchair Doctor discussion on here about depression.

It's a treatable disease that can have devastating day-to-day functioning effects. Simply put, Brule was likely not getting (nor seeking) the attention he required while with the Oilers. He suffered because of it. It's not a case of him being a "wuss" or a "headcase" - it's a disease that was never addressed. It's beyond the scope of what most laypeople can understand in terms of mental state.
It essentially comes down to biochemistry - there's a decreased amount of neurotransmitters associated with normal functioning/wellbeing/pleasure existing in the synapses of these individuals' brains.

The most common and effective medical treatments for the conditions (SSRI's, NDRI's, etc) literally increase the amount of neurotransmitters like seratonin/norepinephrine/dopamine in these synapses - and the effects on their mood are pretty visible within 6-8wks.

That being said, it's not something that can be dealt with on a 100% medical basis - there's a fair bit of initial psychotherapy (counselling, etc) that is attempted before medication is started. It takes a lot to get out of the "funk" the chemical imbalance causes.

Bure's speed with the puck was unrivaled. Fedorov was a faster skater in general, but his speed with the puck was nothing like Bure's.

That said - Datsyuk and Bure make people look foolish in 2 different levels. With Datsyuk it's mostly stickwork, with Bure it's mostly speed.

Not that Bure didn't have top-3 hands in the league at the time he was playing...that combination of speed and hands made him literally the most exciting player in NHL history - and to me it's not even close.

Yes but to be fair Lids was early early early on in his career.

Bure absolutely embarrassed people with his speed and deking ability. More his speed and insane ability to finish. Datsyuk makes people look like they're in the wrong league with his pure skill, shaking and baking i.e. slipping off players and juking/jiving etc., and pure creativity. I give Datsyuk the edge in the making people look foolish department. His breakaway goal on Turco was a landmark IMO, basically the single most embarrassing, pick-up-your-jockstrap owning I've ever seen.

Agreed. But to be honest it wasn't as much "Lidstrom looking retarded" like the ignorant comment above mentioned as much "Lidstrom looking slow". What do you do when a guy can accelerate outside that fast when he already has a step on you? Even positional play can't help you in that situation.

As for making "Lidstrom look retarded" - no one did it better than prime Forsberg. Even prime Lidstrom was having issues with him. He dared to dangle in situations where no one would anticipate it - even Lidstrom. But even that wasn't consistent. Lidstrom would consistently win the 60-minute matchup vs whatever forward unit he was up against on a game-in, game-out basis. And that's why he's the greatest player of the 1995-2010 era.

Dear Coyotes fans, it's official and we are thrilled to be the owners of this wonderful franchise. Go Yotes! #heretostay
And the circus continues. You'll forgive me if I'm skeptical.

Sidenote: Typical of the NHL to re-tweet this (with obvious pride).

I figured this would not go over well on the main boards so I will post it here... I look forward to having the Coyotes, our new divisional opponents, become a team with a tight internal budget for at least the next five years. I envision their budget decreasing each season as the interest due on that loan shark-style loan from Fortress becomes harder to pay off each year without a cash call from the relatively poor ownership group or the City of Glendale bankrupting.

That being said, Maloney and Tippett have worked their magic for a few seasons already.

TSN and co. have really been pushing the 25th anniversary of The Trade. Personally, I couldn't care less anymore.

The one person that is gaining the most is that person that sold a stick that may or may not have been Gretzky's 1000 goal as a kid.

Jonathan Toews says that it's naive to think that NHL players don't use steroids.

http://www.torontosun.com/2013/08/14...rs-are-juicing

Meanwhile, while he gets all self-righteous about it, good ole Captain Serious is probably doping.

I tend to agree with him. I don't think there is a major problem, but I also doubt that the league is 100% clean.

I wonder if they put any pressure on young guys like RNH who need to 'bulk up'.

I can't see teams doing that. Maybe an agent who's trying to get a homerun contract.

If not steroids, I certainly wouldn't be shocked if they were using HGH to heal injuries or blood doping, etc.
