Why can't it be he's playing decent, but we don't need him and have holes else where?

I also question why Hemsky's value is so much less than the past few years. The guy has the same question marks as he did before. The only thing that would really hurt is if we find out that the cap is going down for 14-15. He's been fraction on the dollar since 08-09.
You're not going to get me to say that there is no circumstance under which Hemsky could be dealt at Christmas or any time of the year. And of course there is a grey area between poorly and well. But really what difference does it make. It is very unlikely that a team targets a soon to be UFA, with a history of injuries, with a cap hit of $5M, and a salary of $5.5M, at Christmas if he is only playing decently, unless the cost is a bag of pucks.

Going back to the 2007-2008 season here are the trades of any substance that took place from Nov 15 through Jan 15.

2007-2008

To St.L.: Andy McDonald
To Anaheim: Doug Weight, 7th, Michal Birner

(Anaheim had to do this to be cap compliant)

2008-2009

To Toronto: Lee Stempniak
To St.L.: Carlo Coliacovo, Alex Steen

2009-2010

To Montreal: Benoit Pouliot
To Minesota: Guillaume Latendresse

2010-2011

To NYR: Wojtek Wolski
To Phoenix: Michal Roszival

To Montreal: James Wisniewski
To NYI: 2nd, conditional 5th

To Wash: Scott Hannan
To Col: Tomas Fleischmann

2011-2012

To Phoenix: David Rundblad, 2nd
TO Ottawa: Kyle Turris

To Montreal: Tomas Kaberle
To Carolina: Jaroslav Spacek

Last year is a different situation since the season started in January. Of these there might be three or possibly four that could fit the Hemsky situation. None of those would be particularly inspiring. And it will be tougher to make such trades this year with about 20 teams being a few million off the cap.

http://www.nhltradetracker.com/user/...ason/2012-13/1

So could he be traded for a decent return. Of course. But I don't like the chances of it happening.

I doubt he gets us much, but I won't be shocked to see him return a better fit for this team.

If that happens I will be very pleased.

Do you guys think we should trade N.Schultz?

He is a 2nd pairing dman, I think we could get a 2nd for him or keep him for depth. COL could really use him.

Given that we have a lack of top d-man, having Schultz playing like a 2nd pairing d-man on the 3rd pairing will help this team out a lot.

I personally wonder if we'll see increased production/level of play from some guys with Eakins' system as opposed to Krueger's.

That and how much did lockout hurt certain guys? Guys that instead of playing over seas either spent time with family or if I was a millionaire <35, doing whatever I felt like.

It depends on Belov and Klefa. If neither of them can come in and at least play like a #5, we need Nick around

What do you guys think of Toni Lydman? He is UFA but he has told the media that he would only sign with the ducks, so he propably won't sign here.

Even then I wouldn't take the chance and move Schultz.

Smid and Ference, both play styles that get them hurt. J.Schultz has yet to play a full NHL season, will fatigue hurt him? The only real guy that I have confidence in playing a full year at a consistence pace is Petry.

Unless you can move N.Schultz to fill a void I don't see the point at this time.

I wouldn't worry about Smid. He's missed 8 games in the last 3 years. You definitely have a point about Ference and Justin though

Smid's due. Rather unfortunate, but eventually he has to take a puck that breaks something.

I'd be surprised if he hasn't broken something already. He's such a warrior, it'd take something pretty severe to keep him on the shelf

7 years @ 5.5 million per for Landeskog.

A good benchmark for Nugent-Hopkins?

Not really, because the Nuge could out score Landeskog with his eyes closed. Looks like the Nuge will get the $6M per. Good work, another bang up job on a contract Colorado.

And like clockwork the sheep on the HF forums in "Trades and Free Agent Talk" are praising this deal.

Just watch when we re-sign Nugent-Hopkins. The reaction will be on the opposite end of the spectrum and unanimous.

Last year Landeskog put up 9g and 17pts in 36 games.

Over a fill season, that's just over 20g (fine enough) and just under 40pts(that's not so good)

Remember how "bad" the Nuge was last year? Still 4g(turrible) and 24pts in 40 games. So the Nuge, if he plays even remotely well, will get $6M per

I'm still not sold on Landeskog in the slightest. People overrate size and toughness to such a huge degree and I'm not sure if Landeskog has top-end offensive potential. Heck, Landeskog didn't even score all that much in the OHL - only 66 points in 53 games. Landeskog will provide a ton of value in terms of leadership and toughness but I see him putting up numbers similar to Dustin Brown.

Then again, Dustin Brown just signed for $5.75M so I guess the number isn't that bad if Landeskog becomes a consistent 25 goal, 60 point kind of player.

I'm guessing the over/under on the use of the word "intangibles" is quite high.

I do like Lando though, good player for sure.

Their youth is impressive though. Not sure I'd trade it for ours but I can see why some would. They maybe don't have as many top end young players as we do but Lando, McKinnon, ROR and Duchene are excellent.

I think Colorado took an unneeded risk on this deal - what kind of season would Landeskog have to have this year to run the cap hit up a substantial amount more? I think he'd have to be a 30 goal, 70 point guy to get into the $6M territory and I really don't see him doing that this season.

Given that, the Avs would have been smarter to let Landeskog play the year and make sure he has recovered from his injury.
