Last year everyone wanted them to pick a d, and Maatta fell to their spot, but they took Laughton instead - and that's looking like a very move as he's a dynamite prospect. But with him and Couturier, they really don't need another two-way C, so I'm glad they got th guy their very well regarded scouts picked as the consensus best player in the range.

In terms of the overall prospect pool, we can always use players at every position, but since have so many good young forwards on the team, it was nice to get both Morin and Hagg this year year to go with a couple good D prospects last year.
Laughton has been much better than first expected, but I still wish they would have taken Maatta.

Maatta's good, but I watched some of the OHL playoffs and Laughton was better than guys like Strome on NF and his teammate Jenner, and is a year younger. He added a whole new level of speed this year, to go with his skill toughness and the innate ability to go to the net that lacrosse players seem to have. I think he could make the Flyers this year, but I would not be unhappy if he went back to the OHL and played at the WJC. Knowing London, as MemCup hosts they'll be loading up, so any good O player is a candidate to end up in green and gold this year....

Yeah, Laughton looks great. Apparently he's been called the best player in the OHL last year. I just wish they had taken Maatta from a need standpoint. I think Laughton has a bright future ahead of him.

That was a quote from Ian Laperriere who was scouting the OHL and had other team's scouts or management telling him that they had the best player in the league.

I'm not sure it's 100% true but he looked like he had a gear most of the other players didn't.

Thanks for the posts Grant.....I am learning a thing or two about scouting. great idea to have your trusted guys as crossover scouts to mentor the other scouts and validate their opinions.

I loved the Laughton pick when they made it, and even more now. He came darn close to sticking with the Flyers last season, and I was puzzled by hockey Canada's decision not to even invite him to the U-20 camp last December..he was outstanding for Canada at the previous spring's U-18s.

I think the Flyers got a great pick - Maatta has some mobility and grit issues that were exposed somewhat this past season. He's a future NHLer, but Laughton is a better prospect for me at this point.

Loved the Laughton pick to. I really hope he sticks with the big club this year. The Flyers really like the "Heart and Soul" types.

The Flyers' brass is happy with Laughton's progress. Team Canada wants him as captain of the U-20 team this winter, but he will be given every opportunity to mkae the flyers out of camp.

BTW - the 18th guy on the Flyers' list in that video was Wennberg.

Don't see that at all. From the stills from the first video, there is a clear middle letter with lower portion and the last letter of the name does not have a lower portion that you would see with a g.

Yeah, that episode's not worth your time if you're not a Flyers fan (and probably not even if you are).
