Landeskog signs seven-year extension (7 yrs, $39M)

Colorado Avalanche @Avalanche
BREAKING: The #Avalanche has signed captain Gabriel Landeskog to a 7-year contract extension through 2020-21.

Quote:
The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has agreed to terms with captain Gabriel Landeskog on a seven-year contract extension through the 2020-21 season.

"Gabe is and will continue to be a large part of the foundation of this hockey team for many years to come," said Avalanche Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic. “Signing our captain to a long-term extension demonstrates the commitment of Stan and Josh Kroenke to this franchise and to our fan base. In just two seasons, Gabe has already proven to be a great asset to our organization both on and off the ice. The fact that he has agreed to a long-term deal shows that he believes in this team, his teammates and the direction of this franchise moving forward."
Quote:
"I would like to thank the Kroenke family and the entire Avalanche organization for their trust and belief in me,” Landeskog said. “I love Colorado and I love being a part of this wonderful community. There is no other place I’d rather be than in Denver wearing the Avalanche logo. I am looking forward to training camp and the upcoming season.”

Sweet! I don't think the cap hit will be too high.

sick, love him as a player.

I think 5.5-6 mil a year would be fair.

5.57 per year. That is more than I was thinking it would be.

YEEEEEEEEHAW, wonder what the price is. Can't be too high after last season. Great news.

Edit: 5.57 is definitely higher than I thought. But I'm pumped to have him and Duchene locked down.

I was one of the people who wanted him to play out the season and then sign long-term next offseason but having the captain under contract for the next 8 years isn't bad at all.

Hopefully around $5M/yr.

$5.57m/per is the rumor. Seems like a lot and a bit early.

So pumped. Glad we're knocking these deals out early. I'm really hoping a stastny or oreilly deal is coming.

Wow, I'm so surprised but thrilled. I hadn't heard a thing about them working on this. I thought they'd wait and negotiate next summer. I guess Duchene was right in tweeting to Landy "you're next". I'm loving this front office getting proactive signing our core long term.

Towards the end of the contract the cap will be at least $80M.

I'm happy for him. He doesn't have to worry about a new contract now. He can just play his game and grow into his role. He's a big part of this team despite the shortened season. Roy and Sakic are showing that the core players are here to stay and there will not be any uncertainty about them. Glad these contracts are out of the way now.

Theres never been a kid im less worried about handing a long term deal too. Sure he probably hasn't earned it in a numbers sense but it just speaks even more volumes of what they think of him

Probably will be a good deal as long as he doesn't go scrambled egg brains like Mueller.

Not a fan of this deal. Great first season, but second year was huge fail for Landy. He had concussion issues and game issues. 7 years is a gamble for sure. Kinda mixed feelings, BUT we are gonna have Duchene and Landy for the next 6+ years. That's pretty freaking awesome.

$5.7 is good. Anything over $6 and you run the risk of his intangibles not being enough to justify any bad offensive output(if that happens).

Congrats Landy and fellow Avs fans.

More money than I figured, but Landeskog is a clear part of the core going forward.

I think it`s a solid deal. I hate NTC tho.
