If Del Zotto is healthy, how many goals will he score in an offensive system?

He was in a Defense, Defense, Defense system for the past few years..and still managed to score goals...

But now.hes playing in a exclusive OFFENSIVE system....if he plays 80+ games..how many do you think he can score?

In my opinion, he'll score 9 easily. I'll say that again.... AN EASY 9 GOALS.

BTW just for reference..he was scoring a 20+ goal pace last January in that defensive system...

AV doesn't play an offensive system...

... that being said, I think he scores 10+ next season. The system won't be as hampering as Tortorella's was, and he scored 10 in that one, so...

Tortorella's system was defensive as far as the responsibilities he put on the forwards. He did not at all restrict the defensemen and in fact encouraged them to pinch. I think people are forgetting what we looked like during the Renney years.

Del Zotto has hit the 9 goal mark twice in his career. I don't see why suddenly reaching that mark under Vigneault would be indicative of a change in system.

Hell, if... and it's a big if, as always... our powerplay improves, Del Zotto might score 15...

If he's on his game for most of the year, he'll get 10~.

AV doesn't do "offensive" At the same token he doesn't not practice it. So I think 5-10.

Does he still get power play time over Moore or McD, do they move him to the other side or use Stralman, Stepan there? Does Richards play the point? Now that they have Brassard, Zucc for a full year do they go to more of a two unit idea or still the 4 forwards and Del Zotto thing? Does Hagelin still stink on the power play?

I think the coaching uses him differently so I voted 3-6.

I think that he'll get some PP time, but I believe Moore and McD will beat him out on it because they can handle the puck better it seems. At least Moore. The PP better be restructured. I don't care if we have two units or what.

mis read the question.

I thought it was referring to PP goals.

I think he gets 10+ on the season with 7-8 on the PP

Depends on how AV uses him. That's what magical about a new coach. Everything gets shaken up and players take on a different form, minor or major.

Like I said in regards to McD, I don't believe it's necessarily wise to put a tremendous amount of offensive responsibilities on McD because of the ice time he's already going to get and in a 82 game season, with a solid team playing in front and Henrik in net, it doesn't make sense to wear out your #1 D man.

Having that said, I think DZ starts on the PP and go from there. With a healthy Richards, our PP is going to be better than last year automatically and MDZ and Beaves work well together on the PP.

I'm far more concerned about his assist production than goals to be honest. In a system where the D is more active in the offense, goals can come and go.

The real question should be

"how many times does 'Del Zaster' get used in this thread?"

0-2
3-6
7-8
9
10+

10 is a good benchmark. I think he'll be right around there.

Also think some of his PP time will get chewed up by McDonagh.

Yeah, or no.

I forgot, he banned our Ds from PASSING THE PUCK UP ICE in any other way than shoot it up along the boards.

Might label that as restricting them....

Who do you have playing 3rd line minutes, Staal, McD or MDZ?

The same year Bickel had 3 assists in his first 3 NHL games. He was going at a 80+ point pace in the same defensive system. I guess both of them fell back to reality by season's end.

So far Del Zotto's shown he can put up anywhere from 35 (relative) to 41 points in a season. More upside? Probably--but how much? still remains to be seen. As long as they're on the team he's never going to supplant either McDonagh or Staal on the left side because he's simply not in their league. Their all around games easily surpassed Del Zotto's overall game.

For now I think Del Zotto--barring injury should get anywhere between 8 to 12 goals in any given year. Maybe more if he can get more velocity/accuracy on his shot.

As for the Rangers being more offense oriented that remains to be seen as well. AV had the Sedin's in Vancouver. Nash the Rangers best forward is a notch below either. The coach and his staff will play to the team's strengths and the Rangers aren't as strong offensively as they are defensively.

There's no reason why he can't score 12-15 goals and 45-50 points in the right environment.

If 22 year old Michael Del Zotto can score 40 points in a season, then I have faith in future Michael Del Zotto
