No, Bob signed a 2 year deal because he thought he could be worth more later, well, he has to show that then.

We only have like 2.3 mill in cap. This isn't going to happen

I think it would be a smart move.

Somewhere a starting goalie will get hurt and if Thomas plays some good games as a backup, he would be a valuable trade chip.

Depends how much he wants. Isn't the lineup pretty set? No RFAs to resign? Columbus jerseys kind of look like team USA's; this'll probably be as close as he gets.

IMO he would be a great mentor to Bob

I will tell you what I believe after following Thomas' entire NHL career and a little bit of his Finnish career. If Thomas signs as a back up it will be with the intention of outplaying Bobrovsky to the point that Thomas is the #1 goaltender and the best goaltender in the league. That is just the way I believe Thomas is.

I believe that Thomas won't join any team if he doesn't feel like he can be enough of a difference maker that it will get him a look with team USA.

If he can't do that then he will retire at the end of the season, if he can do it he might retire at the end of the season anyway.

I agree with this.
On strictly a professional level him taking a year off at his age was a huge mistake. I realize he had personal things, so hockey wasn't a priority. He may get a PTO and honestly I don't think he'd still make an NHL team.

So much for signing with a contender if this is true. If the jackets couldn't make the playoffs after bobs play last year, good luck in the future.

I always thought Nabokov would be better if he could be gotten.

Another problem is that McElhinney put together a sterling season in the AHL and pretty much earned another chance to be an NHL back-up.

After the trade deadline Columbus took a greater % of points than even Pittsburgh. Too bad it was a shortened season because they were rocketing upwards. We'll have to see how they fare over a longer 82 game schedule.

Thomas-Bobrovsky would be the best tandem in the game today.

Great mentor for Bobrovsky if Columbus could somehow get him.

Кекalainen and Thomas also know each other pretty well. Jarmo was General Manager of IFK Helsinki from 1995 to 1999 and Thomas played for HIFK in 1997-99.

Outside of CGY I don't see a team that has the money or the spot for him to be a starter. He better take a cheap contract playing behind the most unstable guy he can find, that is if he is trying to make the Olympics.

Even then is Team USA really interesting? Obama might kick more funding into Hockey USA just to have him not be around.

If he's signing for backup money I want the Canucks to get him just for the amazing, ridiculous lulz.

Right, but let him show that instead of pitting him up against someone who would likely want to be a starter himself. Add a Hedberg, or someone of that ilk, to backstop him.

Exactly. I think this might make sense. Thomas to Columbus. Nice tandem. Boborovsky and Thomas. Pretty nice.

Yes the roster is pretty set. If they wouldn't bring back Vinny Prospal due to cap reasons (He was the leading scorer last year and the 2nd leading scorer behind Nash the year prior) I don't see why they would bring in Thomas.

If Thomas signs with Columbus I almost guarantee it that Bobrovsky will takenover the starting job. Bobrovsky is a one year wonder.

He won 28 games for the Flyers two years ago... What are you talking about?

Obviously that doesn't count. Everyone knows Philly is a cakewalk for goaltenders!

Thomas could outplay Bob and possibly win the starter role by December.

Agree, purely in hockey terms.

Off ice, there lurks Thomas' prior outspoken support of traditional marriage and implied anti-Gay marriage stand. This player has Olympic aspirations. Russia, the host country of the Olympics has a growing issue with anti-Gay legislation. Is there an NHL team that will risk a media storm following comments made by a goaltender? REmember, almost any comment will do.

Blue Jackets owner wouldn't care. Nor would the Wilds.

Would be an upgrade over current backup as long as his play is somewhat decent

I hope he does. I wouldn't be surprised to see him or Elliott here. Better than freakin McElhinney
