1) Holy **** how do you shatter a golf club? Is Giroux actually Bane?

2) If this affects his season I'm going to drown myself in acid. I've thought very carefully about this, and it seems the most reasonable course of action.

I don't think the affected tendon will matter much for hockey so at least theres that. Im really hoping he can at least take part in most of the camp.

What is he using vintage 1920 wooden golf clubs?

Anyway....better just be his finger and no BS obfuscation by the Flyers..last thing we need going into a new season.

As long as Timonen doesn't break his arm playing catch with his son, all is well.

He was apparently using his wedge (didn't specify what kind) so I'm guessing maybe he was in a sand trap & got more of the sand than the ball & it snapped.

Will this affect whether or not he plays on team Canada?

I think people are not taking this injury as seriously as they should. First off any injury that occurs before the season starts is going to effect a players, a line, and teams chemistry. Giroux is not going to have the luxury of a full training camp and that is going to hurt him big time.

But My real concern is his finger injury itself. People mitigate the fact that it is just a tendon to a finger but those injuries are very serious. Not a lot of blood gets to any tendon or ligament so any injury to those structures need to be taken seriously. Hands are also very important simply because of all the fine structures in the area that make make fine motor skills, and proprioception possible. There is a reason why hand surgeons are the highest paid surgeons in the world.

If the reports are accurate than highly unlikely it will have an affect for Sochi.

A brief translation from French...

Quote:
Per @jfplante_Droit, Giroux's dad said he hit a ball, club split in 2, one piece flew in air and landed on his hand:

--------------------------------------

From Frank @ the Philadelphia Daily News:
Quote:
Giroux said his club hit the ground well before ball, caused shaft to shatter.
Quote:
Talked to Giroux a couple minutes ago. He was obviously pretty disappointed, but said he'll be able to do a lot in two to three weeks.

Camp at end of August has no ice time, no effect unless he misses significant time, which they say wont happen. Wont effect fitness training or skating, should be good.

Wow... now golf is a health risk...

Don't worry Flyers fans. An injured finger probably won't stop him from working out and being ready for the regular season come opening night.

That makes more sense, I had a hard time believing his club snapped on a clean shot.

The only two people named "Dr. Katherine Boyd" that I could find on the interwebs are OB/GYNs. It's only a matter of time now before his finger gets infected and needs to be amputated.

Will they be on hand to give Giroux treatment between periods?

Here's an x-ray I tracked down of Giroux's injury:

Yes, I believe that's her area of expertise.

There is a Kirsty Boyd listed among the physicians at the hospital with a specific business address listed as The Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus, Department of Surgery.
