OT: Theodore pulled tonight - Aebischer/Theo comparison

Well, Theo was yanked tonight vs LA in the second period. I bet Pierre Lacroix thought he was pretty smart acquiring Theo in that trade. Consider this our payback for the Roy deal. Gainey is winning most of his deals. How many bad deals has he made?

Anyway, here are the Theo/Aebischer stats comparison thus far.

David Aebischer - 7 GP, 5 wins, 1 loss, 2.60 GAA, .924 SV%

Jose Theodore - 9 GP (not including tonight Nov. 7th), 5 wins, 3 losses, 3.12 GAA, .901 SV
%

I'm so glad the drama is over with Theo. Colorado can have him. Theo is a good/average goalie at best, not a great goalie.

On a side note: We have beaten both Stanley Cup finalists from last year thus far. We also are only 2 points back of the Leafs with a whopping 3 games in hand Leafs play Thursday which will give Montreal 4 games in hand. We play the Leafs our next game on Saturday. That would be a huge win for the Habs.

LesHabsRock's Funfact of the day: The Montreal Canadiens have yet to lose back to back games this season and have followed every loss with a victory.

Even if Theodore had returned (or will return) to form, the deal was a good one. He was finished here no matter what he does in the future.

It's a bit strange for Colorado though. Gauthier left his successor (Giguere?) with both a roster and cap mess. It's just strange when a GM makes a big move like that and then walks away, leaving someone else to hold the bag.

It's part of his legacy though, and so far it doesn't look like he pulled a repeat of the Roy deal.

same. But he will be offered contracts to be a clear cut number 1 with other clubs. Not to mention we need money to re-sign Markov, Higgins, Souray, Johnson, Plekanec, Ryder, Komisarek, Perezhogin and maybe Bonk and Rivet.

Hopefully he is back though.

I was one of the ones who thought for sure Theodore would rebound in Colorado, without the media spotlight and everything. So I'm surprised that he's continued to be so...well...bad. Talent usually doesn't just disappear overnight but Theo may just be an exception.

I wonder if it has something to do with the medicine or drug he used to take.

Theodore is good goalie, but he's so freaking inconsistent. He played 3 solid games and now 5 goals in. You never know what to expect from him. It's either solid game or very bad game. You guys won this trade by a mile, Theodore is not even close to worth 5 million.

I always wanted Luongo.

Yeah....You shouldnt be stressed about each shot on net when you have a 5 million dollar goalie in net. He can look brilliant but his technic/style/confidence is wacked.

I'm glad he's gone. Like someone said good/average goalie and no way in hell worth 5 million. I actually feel sorry that you guys are now stuck with him. But, um, thanks for Abby

Which is surprising as the guy seems to be ego-tistical.

I'm not one to boast, but even this one is hard to chuckle about once in a while. While Theo can never get his sv. % anywhere near .905 and his G.A.A. has been permanently over 3 since 2005. Abby has a great sv. % for a guy with a 2.57 G.A.A. It shows you he's getting not much help and has to face a whack of shots. Him and Huet are the best 1-2 tandem going even if neither of them leads the league in any categories. Although, despite their shared workload it wouldn't surprise me to see them in the top 10 sv % stats in the NHL by year's end. Something about our goalies; they always put up wonderfuil sv. % but never the top G.A.A. thanks to our unremarkable D. Yet, the shutouts come somehow I guess the dips in the defensive prowess result in 4-5 goal bonanzas against?

wasn't the Roy/Hayward combo the last duo to win the vezina? could it happen again??

Funniest thing is that Budaj got the loss yesterday by giving only 1 goal....Sometimes, stats do not tell the whole story.....well the save % will correct this....

No it was Billy Smith and Denis Herron for the Islanders.

Me too!! At this point in the season I am more than happy with the Habs goaltending situation. I think they should split all the games this season the way they are now, unless one of them starts playing really badly....then give the other goalie a few more starts.
But overall, Abby has been terrific and Huet is starting to get back into form more and more with every game. It should make for a fun season and a great playoffs.

Actually I think it was Smith and Rolie Melanson in 1981-82. This is because after 1982 the Vezina was awarded to the best goalie as voted by the writers, etc. Before 1982, it was an award automatically given to the goalie(s) who gave up the fewest amount in the league. Once they changed the criteria, the Jennings trophy was introduced and two goalies can win that. Two goalies can't win the Vezina and I'm not sure the games required to get a backup a share of the Jennings but I think one of the many times Brodeur was a recipient he shared it with Mike Dunham (off the top of my head, 97-98). Roy/Hayward shared the Jennings once or twice. Needless to say, Dryden and Larocque were big Vezina winners throughout the 70s.

Who cares. I mean really, who cares.

I never tought he would get back to form and he won't. H'es just a regular average goalie.
