Who's the 8th defenseman?

We all know Beck and Watson are the forwards to move up if there is a need for a forward and Hellberg is next in line. But Who's the 8th defensemen for the Preds? I can't really see who's the first call up for Nashville.

My guess is Bartley since they said Ekholm would likely make the team this year. (I feel like I read that but correct me if I'm wrong.)

Would Valentine be in the mix as the first call up?

I think the 8th NHL defenceman for this team is not in the organization right now, and only would be if one of the 7 sustained a significant injury

I think token is right although I wont be a bit surprised if we sign a Jack Hillen type borderline NHL guy on a two way deal sometime between now and camp if for no other reason than to create competition and keep Ellis, Bartley and Ekholm from getting comfortable

edit: I wonder if Mark Eaton is going to get a contract from anyone, and if not, if he's willing to take a two way deal, thats who I'd like to see Poile sign

This x1,000. I'd LOVE to see Marky-Mark back in Nashville.

Agreed completely. Peterson actually said as much last week on the radio. We have who we have and if they don't prove capable, the team isn't going to hesitate to make a move to acquire a vet.

Valentine out of sheer lack of numbers last season in Milwaukee was converted to forward and played very well. He is scheduled to return to defense this season, but I know they aren't closing the book on him as a forward and remember reading that he was told this summer to practice at both positions.

Rodney, Piskula, and Valentine are likely the next three on the depth chart, but as has been mentioned if a need arises they would likely look outside the organization first. Wouldn't be surprised if a defenseman is signed to a two-way deal yet, one is invited to camp on a tryout basis, or both.

Not Jarvinen? I thought he would be the next in line. He's pure defensive d-man and i wouldn't be suprised if he makes the team after the training camp or during the season.

Hainsey for a mil? Yes, please. Ekholm becomes #8.

I'll be honest, I totally forgot about Jarvinen. He would definitely be up there as a balance between all the offensive defensemen by providing a defensive defenseman.
