John Muckler

If Muckler gets fired from Ottawa, is he the kind of GM you would want in Philly?

While I can't speak for Flyers fans, I wouldn't want Muckler to be the GM of my team. Muckler is very much of the last "old boys club" era executives. While they have interesting history and insight, too much of the game and the economics have changed and left them at a disadvantage. Young, bright, and eager new blood is needed, not someone who should be thinking of all out retirement.

That's a good list. It still irks me that they let Lombardi get away. And Hextall too for that matter.

There was no future for Lombardi here. He wasn't going to be the successor. We didn't even know one was going to be needed.

I'll take Neil Smith over anyone mentioned above.

I'd keep far, far away from Pierre Gauthier. As well, I don't understand why there isn't any love for Jim Nill or David Conte. I think both of them would be great GMs in Philadelphia.

I would take David Conte just to get him away from the Devils!

I also second the poster who said to get Neil Smith.

I don't want Muckler...he seems Clarkish in his ability to make teams better, but not lead them to the Cup. Sort of a GM version of Bryan Murray. Plus he seems to be one of those guys that, like Clarke, holds grudges, which is not a good trait in GMs.

WHat's the scoop on Craig Patrick? Is he looking for work, or happily retired?

Did Muckler have anything to do with building that Buffalo team or drafting any of those players or was he just a coach? Cant remember for the life of me.

No. It was pretty much Darcy Regier who put that team together. Most of the players on that team are players that were either acquired by Regier or drafted by Regier. A lot of the Muckler guys were pretty much shipped out after Regier took over.

because....... he destroyed the rangers and won the cup with Keenan and messier running the show? Or was it the crafty drafting with such earth shattering picks like Pavel Brendl. He crippled that franchise for several years and they still quite frankly haven't returned to respectablility, so bringing someone in to call the shots should not have his credentials.

Yeah, I'm no fan of Smith either.

Hextall as GM scares me (although it'd be fun to watch him trim the roster not by cutting players, but by slashing them as they pass by his office). I love him, but I don't have the confidence in him. Sometimes its better to look outside the family.

It's a shame Clark didn't leave sooner because Chiro would have been perfect for the job. New school executive with strong connection to the Flyers(father).

Want someone young, thirsty and new, how about Paul Holmgren?
Stay away from Smith. The guys is slow and dumb. I get the NHL network and he does game commentary and is slow. I seriously think he has problems.
