Anybody find it weird that its about 20-25 days away from training camp and a guy like Pietrangelo isn't signed, nor does it appear they are talking.

I believe Kadri is unsigned as well

Who Is Left in the NHL Free-Agent Pool?

This was pretty good...

Quote:
August is the dead zone of the NHL offseason. After the excitement of the playoffs, followed immediately by the draft, free agency, and a handful of major trades, August shows up and ruins everything. You suck, August.

Although we sometimes do see a meaningful late-summer signing or trade, most of the league seems to take the month off. And that’s bad news for the dozens of players who are still free agents. Some will still sign between now and opening night, but their options are narrowing and their odds of finding a job are getting worse by the day.

If you’re an NHL free agent who’s still unemployed in mid-August, chances are that you fall into one of 13 categories. Let’s walk through them and see if we can figure out what fans should expect.

the Flyers either keep Mez or "pay" someone to take him off our hands
.ie a 2nd round pick

There are so many guys still unsigned right now that you have to believe a team looking for someone to fill in would rather go the FA-route than trade for Mez. This will stay the same until Mez proves he can be a top4 defender.

I can't wait until both Ottawa and Toronto come back down to Earth next year. The main boards have been insufferable in their pimping of both of those teams from their fanbases. I'd be willing to bet one of them doesn't even make the playoffs next year.

There is a poll thread asking if the Leafs top 6 is better than the Flyers top 6. Sure, they're probably closer than you would imagine, but some Leaf fans are honestly picking the Leafs.

Yup, and Kessel and Giroux are comparable defensively. It's not just that thread though. The shortened season has left a lot of fan bases believing their teams are better than they really are.

Anyone else catch Part 1 of the Louongo interview on TSN today? http://video.tsn.ca/?dl=main/latest/1/0/989824/clip/0

I don't know why they didn't just buy him out and keep Schneider. Lou doesn't seem that happy to still be in Vancouver!

I honestly don't know either. Unless they have some great prospect in the system, I have no idea what their long-term plan is.

If they thought they were going to get some sort of great value for Luongo they're insane. Not with that contract.

Eddie Lack is the guy that the Canucks have thought highly of for a couple of years. He had a terrible hip injury that required surgery, though. He'll be the backup this year.

If he has fully recovered to the point where he can play at the NHL level, Luongo could be moved. The longer they wait, the less chance they'll have of moving Luongo, though.

Well, people who don't watch a lot of the Flyers have decreed all the stats are wrong and Couturier isn't actually all that good. It doesn't matter that they have nothing concrete to prove their stance. Time to give up on him, this one's a bust.

I don't think that's what some of them are saying. Their saying he's not a top 10 defensive forward and I agree to a degree with them. I've read the stats/articles, but to me he still needs to establish himself more to be considered there.

Couturier's on his way to being one of the best defensive forwards in the game and he's certainly the best defensive forward in his age group. But until he gets more hype or has a big offensive season or a big playoffs, people won't give him the credit, especially on here. Hopefully he proves people wrong this season.

Dave Nonis is fastly approaching Jay Feaster status.

Well when you have almost 1/6th of your cap devoted to Tyler Bozak and David Clarkson, people are gonna come looking for the bank.
