Mason's new mask....

I was on twitter today and saw a video about Mason's new mask and thought you may appreciate it.
http://kuklaskorner.com/hockey/comme...medium=twitter

Kinda cool

---------------------

Source: NHL.com:

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=6...d=nhl:topheads

Quote:
Well, at least it's coming to the goal crease at Wells Fargo Center.

For his mask this season, Philadelphia Flyers goalie Steve Mason will have a historical-themed zombie invasion of Philadelphia set during the time of the Declaration of Independence.

The mask is being painted by Franny Drummond, who runs PaintZoo and will feature the Betsy Ross, Benjamin Franklin and George Washington, as well as other historical figures -- all in zombie form.

Drummond credited Mason with the initial idea of zombies when they spoke in June. Mason's previous masks featured items you'd see in a scary movie -- skeletons, skulls and lots of injury-type stitches either holding things together or being torn apart. Drummond said he and the goaltender have spent most of the summer exchanging ideas.

"He said, 'I want horror, but without a horror movie,' " Drummond told NHL.com. "He [Mason] said, ‘why don't we do Ben Franklin as a zombie,’ [and] I said, ‘I guess we could do it.’ I said I'll do sketches, over the summer we'll go back and forth over design work, and this is basically what I came up with. Betsy Ross, any historical figures, and taking it and making it into a zombie apocalypse that hit Philadelphia in 1776."

One side of the mask will feature a zombie form of Ross, the famed Revolutionary War-era seamstress, sewing an American flag while backlit by a lone candle and what Drummond called "an eerie fireplace" that leaves her with an orange glow.

thanks for sharing-- I think the style fits Mason just right

His career was basically dead, so he has nothing left to lose, just keep coming like a zombie and maybe we'll stumble upon a cure to revive his career

corny as hell, i know

25 year old goalie who just signed a new contract doesn't really sound like a player whose career is basically dead. Even if he doesn't ever put up the numbers he did as a rookie, he'll still be around for a while.

What? He's 25. Was one of the best goalies in Hockey his rookie year...has been in freaking Columbus, and looked great when he came to Philly.

Hopefully his new mask won't be used as an excuse for any poor play just like in Columbus when he blamed his old smaller pads...

Anyway, he said he's ecstatic about his "Risorgimento" in Philly...let's hope for all our sake he does well

I'm sorry if my wording was a bit harsh, but we're still talking about a guy that we traded Michael Leighton to get

I wanted to say his career -was- dead, because he was pretty godawful, not necessarily all his fault, but still

I have every hope and expectation that he will have decent success on our team, sorry if I offended you guys with my misstep

I think it's going to be awesome. Hope people don't get too offended by zombie Ben Franklin and Betsy Ross.

I'm kind of sick of this zombie fad.

Maor Star Wars themed masks, please.

EH.

But I'm one who prefers a simple geometrical design to a RAWR SCARY MONSTER type of mask.

I think it looks better when the mask looks like it actually belongs as part of the uniform.

Mason was traded for a 3rd round pick & Leighton. Leighton was a throw in, the Flyers were at the 50 contract limit & had to send a player back to Columbus hence why Leighton was involved. He didn't play a single game with Columbus or their AHL affiliate.

Well you made it sound like it was a straight swap for Leighton when it really was a 3rd rounder for Mason (seeing as they were both of value while Leighton had virtually none). That also implies he's still thought of as an NHL caliber goalie.

...

I just had too say how awesome Mason's new mask was! Plus, we featured it on our blog; it was the perfect combination of Zombie, Hockey & American Revolutionary history. Good stuff...

Can't wait to see it in action!

If he stops the puck, I don't care if his helmet has a Rangers logo on it.

you didn't offend me. His career was dead. columbus threw him to us out of sympathy for duping us into sending them bob. He's only signed to a one year deal. its not like he's got some crazy contract. He could be out of the NHL next year with the way we do things round here. hope not tho. soon enough we'll know.

Yeah, that Bryz mask was pretty much the best one I have seen in a while. I like more vintage looking masks, but Bryz's Star Wars mask was pretty epic. Someone had a Ned Flanders mask at one point that was pretty solid too. Don't remember who that was though. And Kari Lehtonen had one with Lil Jon on it that was pretty funny as well.
