size and grit cant hurt on a bottom pairing. Guessing either Emelin might be gone longer or the team doesnt think Tirnodi is ready yet.

He's not able to handle great competition anymore, and I'd be weary of him getting anything more than 5-6-7 minutes, but I'm content with the signing if his role stays in check. Pushing Bouillon out of the lineup can only be a good thing as well.

He was good at hitting but if someone has an ounce of speed he's done for. Probably his last season in the NHL as well I'd guess.

my guess, 2m base, an additional 2m in easily obtained perf bonuses.

Emelin is supposed to be out till late Nov or early Dec, so there was certainly a need to sign a D-man, and preferably one that would bring some kind of physical presence.

Tinordi i believe will still be given every opportunity to make this team...and possibly even in a significant role. Ideally Bouillon is your #7 and Drewiske your #8.

Murray/Tinordi-Subban
Markov-Gorges
Murray/Tinordi-Diaz
extra: Bouillon, Drewiske
injured: Emelin

Emelin is out to start the year, so this is a good fill in, plus if your not in a playoff race at the end of the year, you'll get a good return for him at the trade line.

Never a bad thing to have depth at defense.

If Murray can play sheltered minutes on the bottom pairing, then this could be a nice signing. Dollar-wise, I'm seriously hoping we didn't pony up more than 2.

Doesn't matter what the $ are when it's only for one year and it fits under the cap.

Would not put Murray on the first pairing...that's bad news. I think he slots in ahead of Drewiske for sure, and hopefully Bouillon. Not sure where it leaves Tinordi.

Not ideal obviously, but we are short on options. Gorges was with Subban last year but he's the one guy on our left side that can play the right side with any kind of success...which i think makes him a natural partner for Markov. So then who plays with Subban?

Ideally a healthy lineup looks like this...

Gorges-Subban
Markov-Emelin
Murray-Diaz

If Murray sees top-4 minutes for any extended period of time this year, we'll be in a world of trouble.

I think Fistric is a pretty good comparable for salary, am thinking he gets $900,000.

Montreal needed someone like him. Bigger and tougher defense for sure. He'll be on the third pairing with sheltered minutes. Not bad.

That's awesome.

When we're healthy this year:

Subban/Markov
Gorges/Emelin
Murray/Tinordi

Diaz/Bouillon

I'm diggin' it.
