No, but not because Kane's not better for the team: It's because Hockey Canada seems to slobber over certain people for no rhyme or reason (Nash, Thornton, and Rob freakin' Zamuner) over players who are better but can't fill the role hockey Canada needs (a la Spezza, Kane) because if you score more than 50 points in a season, you obviously can't play on Canada's fourth line.

Meanwhile Bergeron or Staal have almost always scored over 50 points in a season...

On a 4th line, I'd rather have Bergeron than Spezza because Bergeron brings what Canada needs: A good defensive centreman. You can't say the exact same for Spezza.

st louis-crosby-stammer

Cant argue that this line would be money

tavares-toews-giroux

three centres but all can play a decent enough 2 way game and have a ton of pop offensively

nash-getzlaf-perry

big body line, crashing and banging, scoring goals in the process

richards-bergeron-staal

defensively responsible line that can match up with any other line

hall-top 6 injury, carter- bottom 6 injury

Shouldn't Stamkos and St.Louis be switched? St.Louis is a natural RWer so he could feed the puck to Stamkos who would just rip it (aka TB powerplay IIRC).

I have never questioned the merits of Staal or Bergeron making the team, but nice try putting words in my mouth.

Again, where have I ever said this was a discussion of Bergeron and Spezza? And if I didn't, why are you turning it into one? This person I quoted didn't even have Bergeron or Staal on his 4th line, so where are you getting this from?

jfc64 had both on his team, ditto for 86HAbs and Le Habs, so I really have no clue where you're getting this idea from that I'm advocating removing Staal and Bergeron from the roster.

Love the defence and I think the forwards you selected are pretty spot on (obviously, I'm not a Nash fan). I'd re-work the forward lines though:

Tavares - Crosby - Stamkos
Hall - Toews - Giroux
Staal - Getzlaf - Perry
Nash - Bergeron - Richards
MSL

What Hall does he does with a clear purpose. When he gets a few more feet nearer the goal, especially on big ice, he will be scary! SCARY! Both on the team.

My only fear on team Canada is Stamkos when we (Sweden) have our lower lines on the ice, Crosby anytime because of his overall ability, determination and leadership qualities (not baby X-by) and Hall one or two years from now. We have the defense and grit to move any tower you put in front of Lumquest.

PS. And that Giroux dude if he's in shape. Weber we want too. (Yoda)

That's Hockey roster:
Forwards:

Kunitz - Crosby - Stamkos
Tavares - Toews - Sharp
E.Staal - Giroux - Nash
Ladd - Bergeron - Richards

Defense:

Keith - Doughty
Peitrangelo - Weber
M Staal - Letang
Seabrook - Subban

Goalies:

Luongo
Price
Crawford

I have to say they did a good job on goalies, Defense i would have Staal/Letang as extras with Seabrook and Subban playing. (maybe even Boumeester over Staal)

Their forward core is hilariously bad. Kunitz should be nowhere near this team, ditto Sharp. Also as much as i love Richards and Ladd, i would take Getzlaf and Perry over them any day. Would slot in Hall as that #1 LW.

My lineup of forwards:

Hall - Crosby - E.Staal
Stamkos - Giroux - Tavares
Bergeron - Toews - Nash
Perry - Getzlaf - Couture (this one i am on the fence with)

I would guess:
Crosby
Toews
Stamkos
Tavares
Giroux
Bergeron
Staal

Weber
Doughty
Keith

Luongo

For Nicholson's locks. Yzerman said he is considering 10 players locks. Crosby, Toews, Stamkos, Weber, Doughty and Keith are obvious, and then there are a few that are more challenging to guess.

I don't understand the insurace thing. So the players couldnt come up with $20k each to pay for their own insurance so that they can skate?

pretty stupid if you ask me

I don't understand why they need insurance to skate around.

Hopefully it's the 10 you said minus Luongo.

Can't believe I skipped Stamkos. I guess that's what I get for just using the 2010 team.

Here's what I think is happening:

Officially, no, they cannot go on the ice as part of Hockey Canada's camp because of insurance liabilities. But that doesn't preclude the players from deciding "on their own" to take the ice at some point together to "skate around" while the coaches just happen to be in the stands.

I think NCAA bball teams used to do this to skirt the rules on practice limitations

Well, like it or not, Luongo is almost certainly a lock. There's simply no way we'll go to the Olympics without at least one goaltender with OG experience, even if he's just there as the backup or 3rd string.

I'm not sure who I'd drop from the list to make it 10...probably Tavares or Staal, though you've got to think that both of those guys have a 90% + chance of being there.

If Tavares continues in his progress and his next season is even better than the last one, he is as much lock as Stamkos. Rick Nash is a lock for me. Eric Staal is a little bit behind him.

My locks: Crosby, Stamkos, Toews, Giroux, Tavares, Bergeron, Nash - Keith, Weber, Doughty - Luongo

Very, very close to make it: St.Louis, E.Staal, Getzlaf - Subban, Pietrangelo, Letang - Crawford. So that leaves 7 spots. 4 forwards, 2 D-men and one goaltender. In my opinion, those 7 players could be: Sharp, Richards, Carter, Neal - Bouwmeester, Hamhuis - Price / Elliott / Smith / Holtby. Hell, put even Bernier there, if he really steps up.

Tavares - Crosby - Nash
Stamkos - Toews - St.Louis
E.Staal - Getzlaf - Giroux
Richards - Bergeron - Carter
Sharp
Neal

Letang - Weber
Keith - Subban
Pietrangelo - Doughty
Bouwmeester

Who pays for the cost of insurance at the Biosteel camp, Gary Roberts? They will be on the ice there... frankly there's a whole of of BS going on with this insurance business...but none of the other "contenders" are hitting the ice either. Not sure what the Swedes did at theirs...as they already held their orientation camp I believe, but no on ice sessions for the Americans or Russians.

I think Luongo goes as # 2. It will be Price's net to lose...if he looks goofy in one of the 1st two games, he's out and it will be swim or sink with Lou. I'll set the odds at 50/50 Price looks goofy. # 3 will be who ever has the better stats between Smith or Holtby.

The reason why I said Staal/Bergeron was because they will most likely fill the role Canada needs on the fourth line. And Bergeron was on ManitobaOilers original roster, which started this whole conversation, so I think my argument was valid.
