Belarus TV-channel ONT reports Mikhail Grabovski will sign contract with #Caps today

Should be a great signing.
How is this a confirmed signing?

Solid player who fills an obvious hole with Ribeiro gone. After being buried by Carlyle, I'm sure he's eager to prove himself in a new environment.

I'll miss him on the Leafs, he was a warrior. Guy can take a hit like a champ and keep on coming.

That's my guess too. It will be a good deal for the Caps, and a missed opportunity for all the teams that needed a center but passed on him.

I downgraded this to a rumor for now, though I'm almost certain it's a done deal with quotes like this.

Grabovski's silence to my question whether the reports of him going to the #Caps are true may be very telling...

If this actually happens (I certainly wouldn't say its confirmed yet):

Backstrom
Grabovski
Perreault or maybe Laich or Johansson (once signed)
Beagle/Latta

Easily his smartest decision on team. Caps had the biggest need and offered the best possible scenario for getting paid next summer. Grabs will fit in nice and bring a skill compliment to the 2nd line between Brouwer and Laich.

This could be a great signing for the Caps depending on the role they give him.

yeah... no, it's nothing lower than 3 mill. Macarthur got signed for 3 mill.. lol

To see grabovski degraded to 2m is an insult, he was arguably one of the best leafs before Carlyle came and screwed him. He'll get 4M imo, and the team that signs him will be ecstatic to have him.

I thought Johansson had been playing mostly on the wing last season?

Washington will be very happy with Grabo, people forget about everything he did before his horrible season playing 3rd line minutes. He was still a warrior every game, even if he wasn't producing. However, anyone who thinks he will sign for under $3m will be seriously disappointed, he is still worth $4-4.5m on a long term deal, he just had a bad season under a coach that did not utilize him properly.

EDIT: He was such a fan favourite in Toronto that even after his exit comments, most Leaf fans still support him and like him, just not his last contract... Thank god he didn't sign in the division though!

I hope he plays in their top 6 and not bumped down in the3rd line C like he was here in his last season.

Aside from the last season, Grabo was lights out and a great warrior.

Best of luck to him. loved him in Toronto.

He had, but if Laich is healthy and with Erat here now there's no telling how it would shake out. I'm assuming Perreault gets priority at 3C (with Johansson/Erat/Laich as the initial 1/2/3 LWs) but who knows where guys would end up landing.

He has. But with Grabovski signed, it pushes Laich out of 2C. There's a lot of flexibility in the Caps roster now for when players are hurt/slumping, given that Johansson and Laich can play center or wing and in a variety of different roles.

My preferred line-up:
Johansson - Backstrom - Ovechkin
Erat - Grabovski - Brouwer
Laich - Perreault - Fehr
Chimera - Beagle - Ward
Volpatti

Great pickup for Washington. I've never liked the Caps but I just might have to watch a few more of your games now.

great signing. If Ovechkin plays another great season I could very well see Washington beeing the dark horse in east.

He's definitely not as good as Ribeiro but he'll fill in the 2nd line spot nicely on the Caps.
