Pacioretty should have made it further in my opinion. The Habs have a young 30 goal scoring LWer who took a discount on his last contract (4.5M is an absolute steal) and he gets eliminated before Gallagher! He was also the Habs' top scorer last season.

Sheesh, what more does a guy need to do? People ticked off by his lack of physicality last season need to remember he had his appendix removed and came back to play much sooner than anticipated.

He has in the recent past and I won't use a 39 game sample size in a tight, shortened schedule as a measuring stick for his skill/worth.

Yeah I really don't understand how he got eliminated where he did. At all. Makes no sense to me for him to be out before Gallagher and Eller.

I couldn't vote anymore. I liked all those players equally. Pacioretty, Plekanec, Gallagher, Eller, Subban, Price, Galchenyuk and Tinordi is the core of the team.

Gallagher's smile is better than Patches.

Most people here had weird goal. Mine was getting Gallagher at the top, but some people prevented me from doing that. It's not even a popularity contest.

His stats don't reflect his overall play and Gallagher, Eller have higher ceilings imo. He's good but he's THAT good.

I disagree that Gallagher has a higher ceiling. Gallagher is awesome, but based on what Pacioretty has already achieved, and his strengths as a hockey player (size, skating, goal scoring ability, LW), Pacioretty 'deserved' better. Yeah, yeah, it's just a game, but it does give a general indication what people think of certain players.

Heck, when was the last time a young Habs player scored 30? for that reason alone, I would put him above Eller at the moment.

But yeah, I'm glad that the last players to be eliminated were Price, Subban, Galchenyuk, Eller, Pleks, Gallagher and Pacs. I think Price, Subban, Galchenyuk, Pacs and - soon - Eller are the future of the Habs.

Agreed, I think it's unlikely that gallagher will ever put up numbers in his career that patches already has, I love gallagher, feisty little guy, but I don't anticipate 30-35 goals from him during his best year. I think he over achieved a bit this year, we'll see.

For the last two seasons, he was our best scorer.
So it is clearly more a vote of popularity.
Last year we could have said it was because he was playing with Desharnais and Cole but this season, he ended up much better than those two and better than last year in ppg.

DD eliminated before White, Bouillon, Moen, Parros, Drewiske and Budaj.
Same with Gionta before White, Bouillon, Parros, Drewiske and Budaj.
Even Moen before White, Bouillon, Parros, Drewiske and Budaj but he had a bad season.

From the get-go there are distortion in this process.
Still, most will agree with the last seven players.

Who knows, it is possible that Gallagher turns out to be more usefull than Pacioretty.
His attitude certainly fits with what MB and MT wants to implement.
But for now, Pacioretty has a clear edge over Brendan.

Tough to predict but he has been improving year after year.

I take this game as a general indicator of how much people value a given player's contributions, what they think the player will contribute to the team in the future, and, in general, how they perceive the player (i.e. the popularity effect in all its subjectivity).

So while DD and Gionta and perhaps even Moen currently deserve a better fate, people perceived them as guys that they don't want on the team. Personally, I think Gionta is grossly underappreciated around here given he only has a single year left in his contract, he continues to score goals, and definitely leads by example.

DD isn't a bad player per se, but I agree with the sentiment that his brand new 4 year contract will be a major hindrance for Galchenyuk and Eller, and that he doesn't bring much to the table instead acting as a 'desirable/prime-minutes blackhole' (i.e. offensive zone draws, no defense, no PK, 1st wave PP). These frustrations = DD getting eliminated first.
