Saw him a few times last winter and as a 19-year old he should have been a pillar on his team, but he had a way of looking lost in his own zone from time to time.

And it just so happens that when I had a chance to watch him, I also had a chance to watch Dietz who looked much more in control of his game.

That being said, I hadn't seem him in his draft year.

I assume he looked better then than he does now, but regressing at this age is no cause for optimism.

Well to be fair, it's not un-common for offensive D's to look lost in their own end. Granted it's a major concern but if the rest of his game translates then he may still be able to end up a decent NHL defensemen in time. If he was born 2 weeks later it would have been his 18 year old season since he turned 19 half way through the season and he would be forced to go back to the WHL this year instead of having options.

I agree that regressing is a big concern but I don't know if it's enough to say that he can't make the NHL on a contending team. Hopefully he gets back on track next season and we'll see where he goes from there. For me when I watch him, I see several interesting things and several areas of concern. Really like the grit/sandpaper he brings and he can move the puck well enough, but his decision making in his own with the puck needs a lot of work. I must say I was not impressed with the things i've heard about the coaching for the Blades so now that he's out of there, he needs to get going.

I mean, you never know, but even with Emelin there were rumours of him coming every summer for 3-4 years before he eventually signed. I don't when the Habs relinquish Trunev's rights, but he's signed in the KHL until the end of the 2014-2015 season.

Tanner Eberle has been invited to the Habs rookie camp according to Cody Nickolet (@WHLFromAbove) - who posts on here as Renegade Stlyings I believe.

Cody Nickolet ‏@WHLFromAbove 1h
A couple more WHL guys getting rookie camp invites as Tanner Eberle will skate with Montreal rookies and Kayle Doetzel is off to Nashville.

I see the Oilers waived Toni Rajala their AHL rookie surprise last season, the kid has got the moves to pull Dmen out of their skates that's not an exaggeration. Toni just flies and not many can keep up, then he stops on a dime and is flying at a right angle before most realize he stopped.

He might be worth at least an invite or an AHL contract until some space can be arranged to get him on a two-way contract AHL/NHL. Impressive talent # 31st pick in 2011, this kid will make the NHL it's only a matter of when. At 5'10" and 165 lbs. he's the proverbial "Shadow" you know only the Shadow knows how good he can be. Right up there with Teuvo Teravainen except his speed eclipses the sun's.

Hitting the sauce a bit early today, S Bah?

Just kidding. I think you'll likely find Hab fans won't vote overwhelmingly in favour of giving another contract to an under-sized forward.

This makes no sense, and he played all of the games but 5 after the lockout.

Oiler fans are just pissed at losing him to a Buyout or being picked up off of waivers. He had a point per game last season and that's the kind of offence Lebeau would make good use of in Hamilton. Rajala also scored 16 pts. in 17 playoff games to boot.

They are buying him out to let him go to Europe.

They must be tight on NHL contracts then, otherwise they could loan him out.

I stand rather wobbly corrected, Oilers MacTavish cleaning out Tambellini's best pick outside of #1 picks. Stinks of jealousy on someone's part IMO.

I see he was scheduled to make about the paltriest $50k salary in the entire realm of NHL contracts. He might get 10X that easily, or even more with a lucky KHL gig, so I can readily understand his desire to flee.

This would be the right way to go with Rajala. Then follow his development also in international games and every now and then invite him to prospect camps / development camps to see where he's at. And if he becomes a top 6 player for team Finland on international level, he could be signed to one way deal quite safely. But the possibility for him to really pan out is quite slim, so if you are tight in contracts, you should pass. But the potential is there but somewhere deep. He's actually the one who took U18-WJC goal scoring record away from Ovechkin with 10 goals + 9 assists, 19 points in 6 games played. He showed that he can score if he has a playmaking center capable of quick passing (Minnesota's Granlund at that tournament).

On another note, according to some finnish reports Artturi Lehkonen got hit by two nasty looking hits yesterday against a KHL team in an European Trophy game. But good news is he continued play and despite being quite invisible had two scoring chances in the end, but this time it didn't go in.
