Harvey is heads above any of the other young prospects the Mets were going to start bringing up. He's the best pitcher in the NL right now and losing him tremendously hurts any serious competing the Mets would like to do in the near future.

No, that's Clayton Kershaw.

There goes the future for the next year or so. It's not over, it'll just be delayed.

They said he might need Tommy John surgery and not pitch until 2015.

Tommy John isn't the death knell it used to be but you would obviously prefer he not need it. UCL injuries develop over years of stress. Probably related to his reliance on that hard slider.

Because the innings limits are supposed to make the pitchers invincible....

The point is they will get hurt either way. The innings limits are pointless.

Harvey has partial UCL tear in elbow

Mets ace likely out for rest of season; Tommy John surgery is a possibility

By Anthony DiComo / MLB.com

Monday, August 26, 2013 6:36 PM ETNEW YORK -- Through this season's first five months, no Mets pitcher had engendered more hope than*Matt Harvey, the franchise's best pitcher and its engine for future optimism. But Harvey's season almost certainly came to an end on Monday, and his 2014 campaign is in jeopardy as well.
