Why are the Wild getting so many penalties? Is it bad luck or something else?
Personally, I think the smaller players like Nummelin or Johnsson are getting more than their share because they need to make more of an effort to stop an on-rusher which gives the appearance that they are holding or obstucting. Conversely, bigger, stronger defenseman can block out on-rushers without they appearance they are making a big effort.
However, White plays a good defensive game and is staying away from the box so
I'm still guessing.
Not skating as they should? Maybe it's just me but we've looked a little slower defensively.
No, it's not just you. I've noticed the same thing. To me, it looks as though they're a lot more interested in skating forward than they are in skating backward, unlike in previous years. They're thinking O first and D second, instead of the other way around, and frequently getting caught a half step out of position. I'm a little concerned about it, but I trust Jacques to get it worked out.
