If you have twitter tweet Hamilton about the Drury trade and Larry Quinn's involvement. See if he answers. I heard him tell a story about Regier sitting on it for a while and Quinn giving him a push.

Drury was on advice from Neil Smith, Quinn's buddy.

This wasn't an open and shut trade though, Regier had to move first rounder Keith Ballard for Steven Reinprecht in a separate deal with the Avalanche in order to get the proper assets for the move.

Beyond Blue and Gold - Episode 3 - Dev. Camp

Latest episode up:

https://twitter.com/BuffaloSabres/st...57942060388352

Comments that stuck out to me:

Cassidy on Pysyk:
'Incredible the amount of Novocaine in his veins.'
- As many have mentioned in the last year or so, Pysyk is so damn calm in his zone, no panic in his game at all. Love it in a defensemen.

Cassidy on Zemgus:

'Work ethic is so high we actually have to reign him in at times and kick him out of the weight room.'
- Not too often do you hear a rookie with too much work ethic and commitment.

'We have only scratched the surface of his potential'
- I agree. Buy stock in this kid.

I can't wait to watch Girgs develop this year. I'm hoping he gets most of the year as a center in Rochester then gets a look late with the Sabres.

Its incredible the jump he made last year from the USHL to the AHL. Essentially a jump of two levels league wise (NHL, AHL, CHL, USHL) and how much he had grown as a player by the end of the year. And the kicker is he is just 19 years old. Very excited about his next step.

Not sure what to read into it, if anything, but the two players they focused on were Pysyk and Girgs.

I suspect both of them have letters on their jersey in the next 3-5 years.

Really excited for our prospect pool and I get more and more excited every month. I still wish we had a forward prospect who was a lock to be a 70 or even 60 pt player but there's a few of them in this years draft.

It's a couple years away to worry about but with a great prospect pool comes a great interest from other teams and I just hope that when the time comes to add or swap pieces that the front office makes the right calls. Not saying it was a bad move on the Wild's part but the Pominville trade showed how fast your prospect pool can shrink and I don't think it made them any closer.

Wonder why they didn't focus on the other 2012 first rounder. Maybe Grigo hasn't gotten any better at skating.

Anyway this was a great episode and shows us that the girgensons hype train isn't just surrounding sabres fans, the staff LOVES him.

Thanks for sharing. I love these episodes. Did not notice Pysyk had a front tooth missing last year

A question to those few who think we're getting too high on Girgs's potential: would you presume to say the same thing to the Sabres staff?

He's gonna be a good one. Even if his offensive game never really blossoms, he's still gonna be a great leader and one of those warrior types you love to have in the playoffs. If he develops enough offense to to stick in the top 6, he'll be a really special player.

I was most intrigued by Dawn Braid breaking down Pysyk's skating stride on video.

He was an elite skater when drafted but even in that breakdown you could see how much choppier he used to look. It really makes you wonder if a guy that was considered one of the best skaters in his draft year can improve that much is it because he's naturally good to begin with and can improve with less effort or do the guys who fail to get better skating around the league just not put in the effort? Or both?

I noticed this as well. I think it could be telling (and if it were, then very unsettling) that there was no mention of Grigorenko.

Grigerenko got PLENTY of coverage in the last blue and gold series. My guess is they want to give the fans insight into other players and get fans excited about other good prospects in the pipe.

Also, the Sabres staff collective boner for Girgensons is borderline embarrassing. I'm very interested to see where he is slotted this year.

I think the Sabres have the same kind of excitement for ZG as the fans do and it's largely because of how well things went last year and how solid he was in the playoffs.
