It was 5 times to be exact. (now 6)

And.. they don't belong in the trash ..but, please..let this thread keep getting more dramatic. It's really amusing. They are going to look awesome on the ice. CAN. NOT. WAIT.

i cant believe no one is saying a thing about the waist stripe, when the sharks showed their new jerseys you couldnt go a post without seeing that phrase.

not that i care about the stripe...i dislike these jerseys for other reasons.

fake laces?

the stars wouldve stood on their own.

Another Brian Burke ploy to keep attention away from the team itself....Seriously though, people need to get a grip. "Vomit inducing? Really? If anything too much thought have gone into these jerseys-which probably means hockey people weren't involved.

There are 3 ways USA could have gone with these jerseys:

1) Simple, but classy
2) Old School, but classy
3) Absolutely crazy. Bedazzled with eagles and American flags and flames and guns.

They kind of just combined all three into one jersey.

Let's see some of you come up with a comparable or better design. And no, re-using every jersey from the 80s because "retro is so awesome" doesn't count.

Try actually coming up with something new that looks good.

Yuk I hate the shield, why not the good ol star spangled banner? And why are the stars shiny dark blue material on those blue shoulders instead of white? UGLY

From what I understand, there is no say in what is produced, and the only thing that has to be incorporated is that team colors and country are correct. The main thing I see in the overall design is Nike is trying to incorporate classic [the USA shield ] and modern [ faux stars and what they call flywire laces] . The design elements just clash. Also, Nike is making sure you know what brand designed it placing it's logo in the upper 3rd where your eye is naturally drawn to it, especially on the white jersey. They are not being subtle at all and believe me, it was MAJOR part of the design decision.

No fake laces and it's 100% better. Real laces would have actually been retro. Take the stars out and it goes from horrendous to simply drab.

There's really no defending the fake laces.

the faded looking stars on the shoulders are a little too on-the-nose for a crumbling empire. a little subtlety, please?

Yeah, I very much doubt that USA Hockey had no say in the design. You don't sacrifice your brand to the whims of somebody else. Even if they put primary creative control in Nike's hands, USA Hockey would be constantly involved during the design process, and would retain full veto power. Like them or not (I'm a solid meh- not good, not anywhere near as bad as people here are saying), the responsibility falls on USA Hockey. Obviously there's significant nike influence, but USA Hockey has the final say on everything, because that's just how a designer/client relationship works.

From 1920-1956, US national teams wore a shield as the primary crest. The 1932 jerseys, which USA Hockey has sold for a while and has thrown back to on occasion, had a shield on the front, stripes on the sleeve, and no hem stripe. This is pretty clearly supposed to be a modernized version of that design.

Wow those was really bad, I'm sorry Americans I feel for you.

I hate the fake laces, and the stars, that looks like dandruff at the shoulders.

There was just too much going wrong to mention the waist stripe.

I initially hated the US Soccer team's kit, but they've kinda grown on me(I guess their winning in bunches has had something to do with it). Maybe the same will happen here.

Yes, with time you can often be used to things like this. We'll see then...

Except this isn't USA Hockey's brand....The bottomline is you have the fashion industry designing hockey jerseys. The results are as expected: too busy, too "thoughtful", too edgy, and not "masculine" enough. Whatever. Backes will look just fine wearing one as he pile drives someone into the ice.
