I took a gondola ride in venice with my habs cap on. When I was getting off one of the gondoliers said hey, hockey? hockey? I realized he was talking about my hat and I said yes Montreal. He said he loves hockey, thought that was kinda cool.

In Venice and Rome a few people came up to me to tell me they were from Montreal and asked if I lived there as well, said no just a fan, nice people.

That seems a little strange to me; I knew the Habs fanbase reached anywhere in the hockey-playing world, but... I always expected the Leafs fans to outnumber Habs fans in their own city.

After all, the Leafs is also one of those handful of teams that can reach anywhere in the hockey-playing world too.

Wearing merchandise =/= being a fan, or in the absence of.

I don't own a single piece of Habs merchandise.

There's people who just like Habs logo too, lot of people like that in Toronto. One of my buddies has a hat of the Canadiens and whenever he uploads a picture on instagram he hashtags it as #CanadiAns and it drives me nuts...

And your buddy is from Canada? I mean, I COULD understand an american writing "CanadiAns" instead of "Canadiens" because they aren't used to see the last one being written this way but jesus christ, I hope he's not a hockey fan.

Paul Westenberg threw on a Habs jersey at the first Replacements reunion show in Toronto this weekend, so that is pretty cool in my books.

Having the name Gomez on a #9 jersey is sacrilege.

That's true, but most everyone worldwide who saw the Leafs win their last cup is dead and buried.

Out of sight, out of mind.
