Rookie Game|Sep. 9, 2013|Flyers at Capitals (Arlington, VA) | 3:00 p.m. ET

Re-broadcast: http://www.monumentalnetwork.com/vid...9-13/index.jsp

Recap: http://flyers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?...id=DL|PHI|home

Quote:
ARLINGTON, Va. – Samuel Morin said he felt nervous when he stepped onto the ice for warmups at the Kettler Ice Plaza.

If that’s the case, then the Flyers should try to make him nervous before every game he plays.

Yes, it was only an exhibition game, and yes it was only against other potential prospects and not those of a NHL caliber, but Samuel Morin gave those watching in person a glimpse as to why the Flyers are so excited about him as a defenseman.

Morin was physical, he made good decisions with the puck, he disrupted chances for the Capitals with his reach. He made a diving poke check from the rear to stop a breakaway. He made smart choices with his breakout passes.

In short, he stood out, and when you are playing in a rookie game, won by the Flyers 1-0 by the way, that’s all you can hope for – is that you are stand out.

“I thought he was real noticeable out there,” said Flyers coach Peter Laviolette, who along with assistants Craig Berube and Kevin McCarthy coached the rookie game. “He always has his head up. He’s got a good stick. He closes time and space on puck carriers – it was a good game for him. He was probably our most consistent player from start to finish.”

That he was.

Morin played the first half of the game as a defensive tandem with Mark Alt, and the second half of the game with Maxim Lamarche after Alt had to leave the game with a concussion.

Bored so gonna do a scrimmage lineup guess:

Noebels-Laughton-Straka
Brown-Cousins-Alderson
Leier-Flanagan-Harper
Mathers/Ghoul-Johnston-Mangene/Ryan

Alt-Morin
Lamarche-Konan
Hostetter-Hauf
MacDonald-Nemec

Stolaz
Heeter
Chubak

Top line has a chance to be VERY good. Laughtons all around ability, Noebels in front of the net, and Straka sniping.
Could prob switch Flanagan as the #2 center since I think he has better offensive potential.

Alt-Morin could be extremely good or bad. Alt's hard offseason I think will pay off though.

Love the lines but I have to nit pick at the slight on Cousins. I don't post often around here but Cousins takes ALOT of flack around here because of his "off ice issues". The kid is literally Brad Marchand 2.0. He has the ability to put up points and be under the skin of 20 players skin. He's small, skilled and plays with an edge. Does he have to work on his defensive end, yes but his offensive game is very very developed and he will be a great player and I don't see Flanagan becoming that.

Until Cousins can show he can do it at the next level, Flanagan does have the edge. There have been many junior 100 point forwards who can't play at the next level. Cousins doesn't really possess the best shot or pass. Don't get me wrong I do like him but the Marchand thing gets thrown around too easily. Flanagan shows at least so far he can play in the AHL offensively. The guys playmaking skills are 2nd to prob only Akeson on the phantoms.

I do think Cousins has a better chance of making the NHL. But Flanagan does have better offensive skill.

Hagg will be playing for MODO this year so it only makes sense that he is with them during their pre season, don't know why Ghost can't be there.

Just to add to your point, Gostisbehere would have to pay his own way here & Hagg would have to travel from Sweden & back. It really makes no sense for either to come to camp when they're not figthing for a contract or in the club's plans for this upcoming season.

They both very well could be at it next year though.

Yes, the tickets are free but in the past there was a distribution process held by the Capitals and it was required to obtain a ticket in advance. I don't see any similar notation for this year but if you are interested, I suggest contacting them, perhaps at this number: (202) 266-2200 which is their administrative office.

I think in the past you needed a ticket from online but the ticket was free, however I see nothing about it from a quick google for this year. I'd like to go but sadly can't.

It sucks the Caps didn't follow the Flyers lead on this one & move it into the Verizon Center down there.

I don't know what was the Flyers original motive was for doing that two years ago but it was a good move for the fans here.
