I was expecting 5 million per , slight overpayment but the guy just won the cup. I don`t know what all the fuss is about. He`s on a similar contract to Howard...

That only helps GAA, not sv%. sv% is all goalie. Skill and luck of the goalie are MUCH bigger factors then the ability of the defense or a defensive system.

He just won the cup and won the Jennings with Emery.

Don't see how this is a bad deal. Yet when Rask signed his major deal without winning the cup everyone thought it was amazing.

Any contract that isn't below market value is derided on here. I can't believe people still insist Crawford is a crap goalie. He's on par with guys like Howard and Price who have similar deals.

Not a very good deal in either cap or length. As mentioned it may be in line with other crappy goalie deals (Howard, Price), but I don't see that as much of a justifiable reason for it.

If $6 for 6 is true...

The Hawks have too many star caliber players that need raises to afford paying a goalie IMO. Who would have thought after the PHX loss that we'd have $10 mil in cap space used up on Craw and Bickell

If the defense can force poor shots, then yes it helps save percentage.

Seem a bit long and a bit high, but whatever. Every team has a questionable deal, and CHI management is amongst the best hockey.

??? What? WTF is that stupid rule!!!

as for the contract... it seem a bit long and high, the hawks have one of the best defensive core (plus good defensive forwards) in the league, no wonder he ended up with the stats he had last year

Really? As a Bruins fan I absolutely hate the Rask contract.

And regarding the Crawford extension: I can't believe that he got so much money for so many years..

This seems incredibly risky. Last year is the only year Crawford has been any better than a "men" starter, and it was just half a season. The year before he sucked. Tonnes of goalies have the odd goods seasons, if you're going to make a guy one of the highest paid goalies in the league he better be DAMN consistent, which Crawford hasn't been.

He's been good in 2 of his 3 seasons and is coming off what should have been a Jennings/Conn Smythe combo.

Just read the first page.

"He got what he deserved." "He earned this."

Crawford won the cup yet doesn't deserve $6M per? Funny.

Sv% has so many variables tied into it believing that is the main evaluator of goalies is BS. Especially coming with a dominant team like Chicago.

This is why a guy like Craig Anderson can go from a sub 900 % in Colorado to a 940+ in Ottawa. Hockey is a team game and to discount a good system, is foolish in my opinion.

6m seems like a pretty big overpayment for a goalie as inconsistent as Crawford has been. No offense to him, but when Emery has some of the league's best goalie stats, you know the defense is doing most of the work. Hopefully this contract doesn't get in the way of re-signing Hjalmarsson.

Nope he's not not, he's a level below Howard, and even if he was on par he's still making 700k more than Howard, they both signed their extensions this year.

Howard has had 3 .920 SV% years in the past 4, Crawford has only had 1 and that was this year. Even in their sophomore slump years Howard still posted the better numbers.

Regardless it's still a ton of money for a guy who's not yet proven he is in the top tier of goaltenders. He should be making 4-5M otherwise let him walk after this year.

Hefty contract for a pretty average goalie.
