St. Louis invite Ryan Whitney to Training Camp [Now confirmed]

per Andy Strickland
Quote:
Doug Armstrong hints #stlblues will likely add a Dman on a pro tryout in camp if Alex Pietrangelo remains unsigned.
Quote:
Main reason is to have proper D-man numbers to run camp practices and need another veteran to meet pre-season roster requirements #stlblues
then Bob McKenzie added
Quote:
"@andystrickland: Doug Armstrong hints STL will likely add D on PTO if Alex Pietrangelo remains unsigned."/Speculation is it's Ryan Whitney.
Makes sense for both sides. If Whitney pressures Pietrangelo into coming in at slightly less than he'd hoped for, it's a win for St. Louis. If Pietangelo doesn't bite and Whitney earns a contract, it's a win for Whitney.

EDIT: Now confirmed by the Blues
Quote:
The Blues have invited defenseman Ryan Whitney to training camp as a professional tryout.

Whitney is a free agent and most recently played for the Edmonton Oilers. Last season, he played in 34 games with Edmonton, tallying four goals and nine assists (13 points). He had a minus-7 rating.

For his career, Whitney has played in 474 NHL games, registering 50 goals and 209 assists (259 points).

Whitney's addition gives the Blues 51 players to start Training Camp.

The only win for Pietrangelo is if Whitney comes in and plays dreadful and/or St. Louis incurs some terrible injuries along the blueline.

I wonder when does Phoneix bring in Morrow in lieu of Boedker's situation.

If Whitney comes in, shows off that awesome foot speed, and plays like he has recently.......it's a win for Pietrangelo.

They'll take one look of Ryan Whitney in his first practice and will be backing up the money truck at Alex's door the next morning.

Ryan Whitney is simply awful.

I'm not too worried about the Pietrangelo situation, but it is quite alarming to see so many key RFA's not signed yet. Kadri, Stepan, Boedker, Hodgson, Cowen, and Johansson still need contracts as well.

OR......He is greedy like everybody is. If we are offering anything over 5.75 a year...he needs to just take the money and get rolling on the ice where ALL OF HIS TEAMMATES ARE RIGHT NOW. This doughty/subban crap is getting old.

I'm so so sorry, St. Louis fans, no one should have to have this brought upon their team.

id put most of this money grabbing on the agents. im sure the players just want to play, but these young guns have a lot of people talking in their ear.

Apparently only 1 million. Blues want to give him 6 mil and Pietrangelo wants 7.

If that's true, which is what McKenzie reported, this should not take long at all to resolve.

Whitney will just allow Hitchcock to have the amount of d-men he wants in camp and Whitney will also count towards the veteran player limit you need to have in preseason games...if he even makes it that far.

I highly doubt Petro is worried about Ryan Whitney. No way does Ryan Whitney's possible presence affect the negotiations

Good on St. Louis for not giving in and paying him what he wants.

Sour grapes much? He has a limited amount of time to make as much money as possible. It's called a negotiation. It works this way.

Seriously though. WTF Piets think you're better than the franchise who gave you a shot and groomed you into the player you are today?!
