Not sure if I should post this here or in the training camp thread but I was at Sharks ice today and while all of the other players were running a couple of drills and then playing 3 on 3 shinny Tarasov spent about 35-40 minutes working with someone on his turns, edgework, stops and starts, sideways movements, his first step...it was quite interesting to watch.

He joined the game for the last 10 minutes or so and he (still) has some exceptional hands.

I'm really looking forward to watching him play this season as I think he might have the tools to be a good scoring winger in the NHL.

A Russian forward on the Sharks? Blasphemy!

Light the bonfires! We shall burn this heretic at the stake!

He's been working with the Sharks Ice power skating coaches for weeks.

I know he's been here working out for a while but that was the first time I'd seen him 'in action'.

He still needs some apparently as on one of his last "line changes" he tripped over the blue line and came up with blood dripping from a cut by his eyebrow

I thought Jake Jackson was with Sioux City, but apparently he's with Des Moines.

He was traded from Sioux City to Des Moines in early August.

The Musketeers have traded forward Jake Jackson to the Des Moines Buccaneers for future considerations. Jackson was one of two Musketeers first round draft picks in Phase 2 of the 2013 USHL Draft. The 12th overall pick that was eventually used to select Jackson, was acquired by Sioux City in a trade that sent forward JT Stenglein to Waterloo in January of last season. With the departure of Cliff Watson, this trade takes the Musketeers roster down to 23 heading into USHL Pre-Season action.

Corey Pronman of Hockey Prospectus lists his top 10 (it's really 15 + a sleeper) SJ prospects, one of the best write ups I've seen:

Very good read. However, I was under the impression that Konrad's skating wasn't a weakness.

His skating is certainly not a strength but Pronman is one of a few who see it as a weakness, I think his skating is about average for a guy his size (and he's every single bit of the 6'5 he's listed at).

Matt Nieto
The Bad: Nieto's size is his main weakness.
He played pretty well against bigger players in his brief stint with Worcester last season. It's a small sample size (errr, pun not intended), but if his size is his main weakness he should do just fine.

The article pretty much nails Tarasov, Hamilton and Tennyson.

Elite physical game? Yeah...no.

Also, very disappointed to see that he left off Boudreau.

Elite physical game? Yeah...no.
The same could be said for DeMelo. I see some scouts/people talk about his size and physical game being below average but that's not what I've seen at all.

I think some people (including me) saw what Doherty did when he played with the Fronts and hope at some point he can put it all together in the pros and be that player again. But ya, 'elite physical game' is not something that should be used when talking about Doherty, I'm not even sure calling his physical game average is accurate.

He's a big time boom or bust prospect - Pronman said he'd be at #16.

The fact that he's behind Gage Ausmus is not encouraging.

I'm rooting for him to have a great year.

Several scouts really like Ausmus and if a scout doesn't think the chances of Boudreau "booming" are very good that's what happens.

The article seems to be simply looking up old complaints or looking at his roster card and seeing he's only 5'11''. Nieto needed to put on some muscle between his sophomore and junior years to improve his physical game, which he did. He was already playing an aggressive physical style and I thought he would need to bulk up if he wanted it to translate to the NHL. It was one of the first questions I asked about his games in Worcester, and 210 said it wasn't a problem at all.

size is vastly overrated, when its actually strength and balance that are needed at the nhl level.

The sample size in Worcester is nowhere near enough to draw any conclusions but it certainly didn't look like his size was an issue with Nieto in those 11 games..

Nieto's size could still be an issue going forward considering the way he plays, I think that's all that Pronman was saying.
