Personally, I think the whole last-guy-on-first-guy-off thing with Hemsky is more myth than fact. At least, I don't think he's the only guy on that team that could stand to improve their practice habits.

Being a leader for the younger guys though, that I do believe is something that he's resisted over the years, despite management's continual prodding to be more active in that role. Hemsky's always been a private guy that likes to keep to himself.

That's specious reasoning. A lie does not become truth by virtue of multiple tellings or by the fact that no one says "hey this isn't true."

That's not to say there's absolutely nothing to it, but there's also probably more to it than "he's lazy and DGAF." I mean, honestly: the guy has had two bum shoulders and a busted foot over the past four years: do we really expect that a guy who has been that banged up should be out there giving 110 per cent in practice?

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't call it lazy, but the guy has holes in his game. Eakins likes hard work and guys with good work ethic. Is he going to like guys that don't put in the time to work on these issues? It's not just Hemmer either. I'll pick on Gagner as I usually don't, but lets say he is at 43% on the dot after game 15 and RNH is fine. Does Eakins start cutting Gagner's faceoff time and start giving them to Gordon because Gagner doesn't stick around and work on this flaw?

Hard work or lack of work will only effect so much, but guys like Gagner, J.Schultz Yak, Hemsky etc.. always want to play a bigger role they don't put in the practice they might not get it.

I am happy Hemsky is still an Oiler. He is highly skilled and can/will contribute offensively. Moving to third line should see him playing against easier competition and, if one of the top 6 goes down, Hemmer can step right in.

Depends how Eakins wants to work his lines. A criticism MacT had of Kruger was no line matching. I can see the Gordon line being used in a shutdown role so Hemsky may be getting a lot of dzone starts and a higher QoC if indeed that is the line he plays on.

Sounding like Kaberle will now end up with his old team Kladno in Czech Rep. Talk of 1 yr 1M with out clause for a poss' #NHL return this yr

I mean really, you wait this long and this is all you get and you expect for a NHL team to come calling? I hope Kladno deducted money of their offer for allowing a player such a waste of a clause.

That's not all bad though. Hemsky is good at carrying the puck out of our zone, so he could succeed in that role.

Passing him up implies we had the choice to draft him.

Also what MetaOil said.
