Trade Rumors and Proposals Thread IV: Top-6 Center Stop Gaps? Super Heavyweights?

Last one hit 1k. Find it here.

Offseason is winding down and the Training Camp is right around the corner.

RNH + would be overpay... getting to keep the big 5 and adding AP would be a step towards right direction.

It would all be about finding someone that Armstong really likes. When we traded for Pronger they got a 26 year old d-man in Brewer who Olympic won gold with team Canada(as well as a couple WC and WCH) was an all-star and had room to grow. Does Armstrong think Petry is that guy, maybe but doubtful.

The other thing is if it's a money thing the Blues aren't exactly saving much here. They are taking 5.25mil on, which should drastically increase next year with Petry looking for a raise.

@Joe.. Pretty sure Polak shoots right .. so do Shattenkirk and Pie.

There is a reason they are after Whitney and not a RD..

JBo-Shatten
Smid-Polak
Jackman-Petry
Leopold

Should be a good group.. Nurse for future and 1st to boot.

Petry wouldnt be playing big minutes and wont be demanding big money. Smid is on a great contract.

I have my doubts that they want Polak, Jackman and Smid on the same team.

And if what you say is right on the bottom line, then why does STL do this? They only do it if they think one of Smid or Petry is going to have top line potential in the near future. They are a contender.

Cleary won't attend Wings camp on PTO, talking to three other teams http://t.co/16Ip1cUAAA

Earlier this week, the Detroit Free Press reported Anaheim, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh had all expressed interest in Cleary, with the Penguins sending fellow Maritimer Sidney Crosby to make a pitch.

I am honestly surprised he hasn't got a contract in the NHL. Was he that bad in Minny?

Maybe hes the next Grebeshkov next year and we sign him

I asked MacTavish if he's looking at bringing in a veteran or two on a PTO. He said he is, but admitted he doesn't expect many players to accept one due to the risk of an injury. He was clear that if he does bring in a veteran it will be a forward, because he feels the Oilers lack depth at the forward position.

Don't expect Brad Boyes to come to camp. He is more of the same of what they have. Skill with little grit or a strong defensive pedigree

Who's Gilbert's agent? He's probably filling Gilbert's head with all kinds of "You should be getting 3 mil+" nonsense.

Remember that huge thread last season with people arguing we got fleeced in the Schultz/Gilbert deal? I wonder what they think about this.

Not a maritimer because he hasn't lived in Newfoundland for a very long time, or not a maritimer because you feel Newfoundland is not a maritime province? I assume the latter, but its kinda like the Scandinavia thing with Finland: the reference still kinda makes sense.

Guy had rotten luck getting mono or pneumonia or whatever it was he had last year. He was quite decent in his last year as an Oiler.

edit - Gilbert.

The latter. And no it doesn't make sense because it's factually incorrect. Period.

Not liking us not being on that Cleary list, but to be fair, those three teams have more winning pedigree.

If Gilbert was willing to accept a one year, 1.5M deal, it's a shame we didn't sign him over Grebeshkov, but my guess is he may have priced himself out.

We don't need Boyes, I'm fine with not inviting him.

I'm glad to hear MacT is considering a forward invite, we can all conclude a third line guy would be ideal to add for depth purposes, or a 4th line C and 4th line wing invitee would help competition.

Sorry to challenge 2 of your posts in 1 night bozwell but you are interpreting capgeek incorrectly.

Quote:
Under the collective bargaining agreement struck in 2013, a performance bonus cushion is in place for all years of the deal, including the last one in 2021-22.
The performance bonus cushion allows teams to exceed the upper limit with performance bonuses to a maximum of 7.5 percent of the upper limit.
For example, if the upper limit is $64,300,000, teams can exceed it by $4,822,500 in performance bonuses. Any performances bonuses in excess of that total do not fall into the cushion and are counted as part of the team's cap payroll.
We have $2.85M in bonuses counting against next year so far. So we have an additional $2M in cap space to use this year. The contract can be set up as mostly bonus money. Ie what Boston did with Iginla's contract: $1,800,000 salary + $4,200,000 (easily attainable bonuses) = $6,000,000.

Plus we can send down a player like Larsen to save another $900K in cap space. ($1,025M - ($550k + $375k)) = $100k cap hit and $900k cap space. http://www.capgeek.com/new-cba/

The Oilers have at least $4.25M to sign a UFA.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Hearing RFA F Mikkel Boedker is on verge of agreeing to terms on a 2-year deal with PHX. Not quite official just yet but likely imminent.

With the bonuses, I don't know if we want to push back too much into next offseason as well and then rely on the cap going up... Nuge, Petry, and Dubnyk are going to get raises (plus we'd likely have to pay someone to take Hemsky's spot).

Though you are right about sending players down
One D HAS to be sent down which saves another 900k (775k in Potter's case).
So if we don't want to add the bonuses onto next year... we have 1.3 million + 900k if we send Larsen down to get to 23 players on the active roster = 2.2 million in space.
-Sign Malhotra to 1.3 million (2.2 - 1.3 = 900k in space + 900k from Lander being sent down to the AHL to get us back to 23 players) gives us 1.8 million in cap space again

So we'd still have 1.8 million to work with. We could realistically send down Potter and save another 775k = 2.5 million in space to sign someone else.... maybe Raymond or Mueller would take a 2 million/1 year offer and we'd have the 500k extra for wiggle room

Go into the season with
Hall/Gagner/Yakupov
Perron/Nuge/Eberle
Mueller/Gordon/Hemsky
Joensuu/Malhotra/Jones
Smyth and Brown

Petry and Smid
JSchultz and Ference
Belov and NSchultz
Grebs
