You are forgetting that we already have a 2.6M$ bonus. So our cap is not 64M$ but it really is 66M$.

Yup, you are right. I was just demonstrating the basic math...

what?

Sorry but can you keep show me where you got this information, extra cap space doesn't carry over to the year after.

This is simply not true, a team like the Islanders who have a full roster and are 15M under the cap are not going to get an extra 15M to spend next year on top of the cap.

Unused salary cap space does not carry over from one season to the next. All teams have a $64M salary cap. I believe the 'bonus' you are referring to is the total amount of performance bonus salary that players could earn this year. Only IF the bonuses are reached will we go above the salary cap, and the amount by which we go over will become a penalty on next year's cap.

Here's the math:

64M cap limit.
64M / 82 = 0.78M per game.
Let's say the trade deadline is 60 games in (not sure about this):

Scenario 1 - We keep tinordi and run with a maxed cap all season:
60 games * 0.78M per game ~= 47M spent
17.2M left for 22 games
0.78M left per game

Scenario 2 - We send Tinordi down in Hamilton and play 2M under the cap until the trade deadline:
62M / 82 games = 0.75M per game
60 games * 0.75M per game ~= 45M spent
18.6M left for 22 games
0.84M left per game

0.84M * 82 games = 68.88M

So, if we play most of the season @ 62M, we'll be able to acquire up to 6.88M of salaries at the trade deadline.

Note that I rounded a lot of numbers, and I'm not sure how many games there is until the trade deadline. But that's the basic math.
This could be true, I always thought that a team simply has to be under the cap every game, and it's game by game, the reason teams are able to add players down the stretch is because their salaries where prorated, so you need to fit in that small amount, but you example, makes more sense.

The Islanders actually only carried on 850k in bonus to their cap. Maybe they were too close to the floor?

My problem with Gorges is not that he's not physical enough. It's that he gives the blue line too easily.

If he would be more physical it would at least help compensate that weakness but he is not.

We're still at 65.1M$ with 1.8M$ to spare...

People forget that if he stays at the blueline and miss his move he gives up a free ride to the net. Defenseman has to keep players outside the slot until a teammates come help him. Gorges does that very well, he has very good positioning and reads teh play very well. He's also a guy who will sacrifice himself for the team. The only drawback is that you can't ask him to clear the net. But that's what Murray, Emelin, Subban can do, eventually Tinordi as well. Just pair him up wisely.

Didn't take a long look, but it's not really set up right, they are have us over the cap because we have a 24 man roster, 1 over the limit..not sure how they get 1.8m cap space tho.

I think that refers to summing up the actual payroll and not the cap hit. The cap hit is based on the average salary a player has over the course of their contract but often get paid fifferently each fiscal year. For example Bourque is getting paid 4M with a cap hit of 3.3 for this year.

But in hockey if you don't take any risk all you do is be pinned in your own zone.

With Gorges, the reason he seems so good defensively is that he never takes any risk. If I'm a player for the other team I gain the zone on his side because I know he won't block me.

He never does.

I worked an entire 9 hour shift and you Poindexters are still discussing Gorges instead of the designated topic.

Brilliant.

Well unless you have nothing tangible to bring on the table you're not really better hten any of us.

Personally I'm not there so I cna't talk about the rookie camp as I have no clue of what's going on. But if you've been there it'd be cool to hear about your impression (or anyone who has been there).

From what I have gathered he looks alot like Brendan Gallagher. Given that Parros and Gionta will not play the first game, we might be looking at a guy who will come up to fill in.

But at the end of the day who's the better player ?

Subban makes the guys from the other team think twice before going on his side because they don't what he'll do.

Of course sometime he's going to misd it but he still bring more positive than negative.
